Cooking
So.....yes....people that know me...know what i love...And a def passion.....cooking...which sometimes is very hard cause on the ship i have no opportunity...well sometimes i managed to throw something together.....proscuitto, crackers, mozzarella and fresh olive oil....not cooking...but the best substitute...and after all in the end...cooking is great when you have people that enjoy it....so making the mozzarella and proscuitto for friends....was loved...So then it def made up for me not cooking......now back at home i get to catch up a little on cooking....so what have i made....here are some things.....and yes...while cooking listening to music and having wine...def......
Yes, its winter here in SA....and no its not winter like Europe...but when u have lived here in SA for so long....then this is def considered winter....so what better wAy to "celebrate" winter....cheese fondue....and yes....i make it from scratch...not buying the ready made mixture....gruyere cheese, whole garlic cloves, white wine and of course kirsch.....so good....and dont forget fresh crispy ciabatta...man we had this a couple of days back...but i could def have it again...you must know...cheese major weakness for me....wish i could say it was celery sticks....but its cheese, nuts, chocolate and butter.....yummy....here is a pic of the cheese fondue....Shit...u know...i even got made fun of because i spread so much butter on my cheese....but dont mock until you try....its amazing.....
Now...lets move on from cheese.....had some people over for dinner....then i like to be able to prep food so that i can spend time with them...and not have to spend hrs in the kitchen while they are here...so crostinis....very good way to keep people from starving to death....and who does not like Italian food.....crostini...lots of butter, olive oil and garlic...into oven...then spread with toppings...olive tapanade....aubergine curry, anchovies...and the most famous...chopped tomato...yes...my favourite.....then followEd by something a little less heavy.....salad....and mains something called party fillet with cognac tomato cream foam and spaetzli....yes....home made spaetzli....food was loved.....dessert..made another carrot cake....just because it is loved....so here are two pics.....crostini and main course.....When looking at the pics i think i need to improve presentation...damn....ill start working on it.....
And my last cooking diary for tonight.....i made black risotto with seafood.....black risotto is squid ink risotto, bought in Venice, and i made it decorated with seafood...from calamari to mussles to shrimps to prawns....my dads face...was like...what the hell is this...but one bite and he changed his face....that meant a lot to me.... Like i said...cooking is one thing but if someone loves what you do...its the best feeling....like when i convinced a friend on the ship that mozzarella is amazing...you just need to know how to eat it...NEVER CUT a ball of mozzarella...it looses the taste...always tear mozzarella...add a little olive oil and salt and THAT IS IT....and guess what...i managed to turn him from verdict mozzarella is ok....to i love it....hmmmm...i might just know a thing or two about food....and ps that is also how i convinced my dad that mozzarella is nice...he actually refuses to eat it any other way.....back to risotto...amazing....ill cook it again....but only when we have special guests.....hmmmmm....ok here is a pic....
Tonight......im lazy.....i went to Food Lovers market on Nicole Way and i got some fresh sushi....man...what a selection......was so difficult to decide what to take...but then again....what do i love most...salmon......sashimi....here is a pic....i think it will make you jealous....and the ginger...man its so fresh......it was really good...im def going back......
