Encore Mauritius

As promised in my last blog...let me mention the a la carte dinner....consisting of 5 courses....but before dinner of course there was also an aperitifo buffet where they had small bites from lobster wraps to prawn and cream cheese crackers....delicious....Kim and I went to the a la carte retsaurant twice....once with everyone (mom, dad and Mutti) and one night just the two of us......both nights food was fab... First course was an amuse bouche, both times it was a soup, once a tomato cream soup and once a seafood soup....for me, it was too hot for soup and in my opinion an amuse bouche is a taster, something small and the soup was quite big....next was the starter.....there was a choice of three, Kim decided to go for the Chinese seafood soup while I had the lobster tagliatelle (the second time we both had the smoked salmon roulade), it was delicious, but a huge portion.....mains, again a choice of three. I ended up having the grilled fish and Kim the duck....perfectly cooked, the

So...I truly believe in having a good holiday before the new year starts again...work starts again...well real life starts again...so as mentioned...between Christmas and New Year we stayed at home, made a small trip to the Midlands and Drakensberg, but in January it was time to get a little bit of sunshine, beach, pool and doing absolutely nothing....so the decision was to go to the Club Med in Mauritius....Plantation d'Albion..... I must say....what a beautiful resort, it was well organised, here is an example. When we arrived in the morning, the rooms were not ready, so we got a room for the day which allowed us to shower and change and then late afternoon we got our real room...beautiful size...actually large, around 50m2....the bathroom could be open to be a part of the bedroom and lounge or it could be closed with a wooden sliding door...fabulous....the resort....divine..... Food....well let's start by telling you how it works...Club Med is an all inclusive pack

This morning....drizzled a little bit....but not too bad....off we went for breakfast and after that we would decide whether we would go for a small hike....buffet (of course-but the breakfast buffet I actually enjoy). Then it was time for a hike, let's do the Duiker trail, its about 1/2 hour each way.....and you can go and come back different ways and apparently you have a great view from the little damn.....and yes, the view was beautiful.......  On the way up  Duiker Damn View from the top After that the march down...again, the scenery is just beautiful.....it had little rivers, tiny waterfalls, very very nice.... On the way down Once we reached the bottom again, the drizzle got quite heavy, so Kim said he wanted to see the reptile park, as we arrived there the guide told us, it is a tour and the one at 12:00 is full, we could however put our name down for the 14:00 one.....hmmmmm.....ok why not.......before, some lunch, we saw a sign for an artisan bak

Next day...breakfast and we started our way to the Drakensberg...specifically Champagne Valley....as mentioned in the last blog, Kim did an alternative route, meaning not highway.....curious where he would be taking us....the scenery on the way was amazing...let me share some pics from the Midlands..... Just outside our hotel  Midlands  Midlands Midlands The roads were good we were surprised...until we hit a dirt road and a lot...and when I say a lot....I mean A LOT of cows blocked our way and refused to move....so guess what....dad got out of his car and started making noises to try to chase the cows.....man it was amusing we were just laughing, funny enough it worked and slowly the cows started to move and we were actually able to make our way past them....quite an experience if I may say so myself :-) The cows (not the best pic, but we were laughing too much at my dad and forgot the pics) When we arrived at out hotel, Champagne Castle, we were surprised
