Wine tasting with foodies at Prime Grill & Butchery

Image
So....it is Friday evening...we were invited to go to a wine tasting with a 4 course dinner at Prime Grill & Butchery in Fourways.....i was excited...cause i like these type of pairings.... On arrival we received a glass of Sauvignon Blanc....it was quite light and not too bad...but I am not the best judge on white wine cause I do prefer red wine....but it was not bad....and i must say, they were generous in the quantity one received and they would even top up if you wanted more..... Once we entered the private room, tucked away at the back of the restaurant, however, fully surrounded by glass, there was a table of 20 people. The menu lay on each place setting and looked as follows: Menu for the night As you can see...the wine maker was Meinert....the owner himself was present and he gave a speech once everyone was seated. He explained a little bit about where the wine farm is situated, Stellenbosh, about what wines they produce- mainly red wine and why they produce one white w

Random Radolfzell

As promised....random Radolfzell...food and some scenery pics....just worth showing to you...first up....a mixed salad at Altstadt Cafe.....as you might remember the cappuccino was not nice...but the salad was nice...fresh, great dressing....yes, for a mixed salad i would have expected some carrots, cucumber, tomatoes etc...but it was fresh and i loved the derssing.... Mixed Salad at Altstadt Cafe Then...salad plate with Knusperli....Knusperli basically is fish in batter...and man...it was very good...some red pepper salad, boiled egg, carrots, tomato, cucumber, greens and of course the crispy fish...and the derssing...wow...i definitely wanna go back there...and i would have the same thing again...was all fresh and yummie....i guess the dressing is what makes it..... Salad plate with Knusperli at Krone Before flying home to SA,mom, Sofia and I decided to have dinner at Zurich airpot...we are not going to discuss the price...cause man...it is so bloody expensive...a glass of prosecco.

Radolfzell.....finally.....great cappuccino

Image
As you might be aware, we are back in Radolfzell because my Oma passed away....we have been out doing some walks in between organising and sorting out things.....so now...i can finally say (hence the word finally in the subject) that we have found a great cappuccino.....but ill leave the best experience till last....so i am going to tell you about the other ones we have had..... First off....Altstadt Cafe....this was not a coffee shop mom and I would have chosen, but we were invited there, so we went there.....the atmosphere inside was, to me, non existent....black leather chairs, dark tables and for me that is rather cold....just nothing to it....the cappuccino....not good at all.....it was served in a soup like cup (meaning very very big) and hence the coffee was very milky, the foam was way too airy and way too little.....there was no choc sprinkle, there was a biscuit though....but i will not go back to this place....i had some savoury food (will be discussed another time), mom had

Greek Islands II

Image
Encore Greek Isalnds, as promised....i will write another blog about the Greek Islands....so...as you might know...next up is Mykonos....we tendered so off i went by myself for a stroll and i would meet kim later for some food and of course....cappuccino.....i love Mykonos....i just think it is so pretty....just to walk through and enjoy the views...shop wise, there is not too much...souvenir shops etc....but let me share some random pics of the island.... Random pic from Mykonos island Church near the waterfront: Agios Nikolakis Settled on a stretch of cobbles jutting out into the port, this small antique building with a dazzlingly blue dome is one of the most picturesque churches in town. Note the quaint interior: the black and white tiled floor, the ceiling painted like a starry night and the ornate golden chandeliers. Panagia Paraportiani- Church of the Lady Chora's most famous church takes its name from its location, right next to the castle's side entrance in the Kastr

Greek islands.....i was lucky to join my husband on the ship for one week and enjoy the Greek islands and get spoilt by him.....it was an amazing week...i loved every moment....of course i have seen the Greek islands before....which was great cause i did not feel rushed to go outside and explore...i knew the places and we knew where to go and what we wanted to do.....just a relaxing time... First off was Corfu.....i decided to walk to town..took me about 30min from the ship exit and take a stroll through the old town....lots of souvenir shops and coffee shops....so that is what i ended up doing.....getting cappuccino....in between the two cappuccino places i had a typical Greek pastry.....the baklava.....from one of the oldest pastry shops in Corfu....now let me share some pics and then i can give you the verdict on the cappuccino.... Cappuccino in Corfu Old Town Don't ask me where i was....somewhere in the old town....it was in a tiny little cafe/ bar....the coffee was very stro

Oma

Image
Just as our Italian venture in Jesolo was coming to an end we received the unfortunate news that my Oma has passed away....i could not believe it....she has been battling with terminal cancer but it still was so unexpected.... Oma had breast cancer 15 years ago and survived it and was cleared...that was such a joyful time when we received the news that all was good....about a year ago she received the bad news that the cancer was back...they could not locate it because it had spread throughout.....what terrible news....but I do not wanna go into details...I would rather just share a few last pics of my Oma and think of what a wonderful person she was. Kim, Oma and me at Strand cafe in Radolfzell (Mettnau)- May 2015 Oma and Sofia- September 2015 She was a person who always saw the positive in every one of us, never something negative to say about anyone. She always gave to the poor, and I mean ALWAYS, not once did I see my Oma walk past someone begging on the street and

Parma ham with buffalo mozzarella The parma ham....so damn thin...and not too much fat....buffalo mozzaralla just melting in your mouth...generous portion for an antipasti....and i must say...there was not one night we did not order such a starter cause it was so damn delicious..and one definitely cannot say parma ham is parma ham....it definitely is not...not just the taste/ quality...but one can also cut it too thick....so thin one...very very good....
