Santo Tomas de Castilla- Guatemala

Another new port....and a new country....not one that was necessary on my list....but we all know how much i LOVE to travel and see new places...so this was good....we docked in the cargo port (i think that is the only port), not a pretty port....BUT Sofia loved it....because she could sit on the balcony sun lounger and she had soooo much to see....trucks, cars, bicycles, cranes....exciting for her...she even took her breakfast outside (her boiled egg) and peeled and ate it on the sun lounger...yes, she peels her own egg...almost by herself...just needs a little help, but I think quite impressive for 17 months. Let me share some pics... Cargo port Sofia watching Sofia peeling her boiled egg Today we had a tour planned, but we left the ship before the tour because there is quite a large area with local vendors all selling their goodies. Most stalls sell the same things and you do need to barter but I still enjoyed it. We bought some coffee beans and Christmas decorat

Harvest Caye

Harvest Caye is new....and absolutely amazing....it is an island just off the main land of Belize that has been developed by NCL....and they have done an amazing job...I mean just wow. The cruise ship docks and the walk-way onto the island is all covered....have a look...beautiful. View from the ship  Sofia ready to go to the beach Every time (three times so far), we have been here, we went out....it is just so convenient and Sofia loves the beach. At the end of the walk-way is a beautiful entrance gate... Kim and Sofia at the entrance gate As you enter there are souvenir shops, other shops (clothes, duty-free, Harley etc) and of course restaurants and bars....there are places where you can hire kayaks or even do a zip-line...there is plenty to do for everyone. We normally end up going to the beach, playing in the sand, swimming and afterwards a small lunch which might include a Margarita (depending). It is really special and I love it. The pity is, that norma

Costa Maya x2

Image
Yes yes.....we have been there three times also....BUT....we only left the ship twice...because the third time it was Christmas Eve (24th Dec) and they had the Christmas lunch for all crew and Sofia and I were also invited so we opted to go there rather than go outside...and after lunch it was nap time for Sofia....so third time no going out...but let me share some stories and pics now..... The first time we were there it was just Sofia and I who left the ship...it was the first time in Costa Maya for both of us....so time to explore...it was a short walk to the tourist village where there are quite a few shops....restaurants....bars...and a swimming pool/bar. Sofia and I even found the chocolate store....where, believe it or not, she did not want to leave and made quite a fuss....at the end of our first time there we in fact went to the store and we did end up buying some local chocolate...let me share a pic of that.... Dark chocolate with salt and tequila and a dark chocolate

Cozumel x3

Image
So....it has been a while since I have last posted but I have been rather busy...in fact...Sofia now only has one nap a day for about 1.5 hrs...and that would be considered me time :-) So what I have decided to do in this blog is write some combined ports....what do I mean....well, this is the third cruise (week) that Sofia and I are onboard the Jade....so we have visited Cozumel, Mexico three times....and we always do similar things...we find a nice place to go and eat....or have something to drink.... The first time we were in Cozumel we were at a different port (just a little bit further away from the main city)...one I had not been to before...that was quite nice...we also discovered that our favourite spot, Margaritaville has in fact moved to that part...so that was quite convenient and of course we had to go and visit....have one of their famous Margaritas and their famous guacamole. Here they do not have the guacamole cart though...damn...but the guacamole was still very de

Roma and Orvietto

Hmmm....what are we doing there....well....we needed to go to the embassy in Rome...so of course we had to leave early...in fact we had an appointment with the embassy at 10am...which means we had to leave at 6:30am...and not because it is sooooo far...but because parking in Rome is close to impossible...definitely takes time...and patience and most of all LUCK! We arrived in good time...and we circled for about 15min before we managed to find a parking near the American embassy. I still consider that quite lucky. We decided to have a cappuccino at one of the coffee shops near the embassy.....Doney was the name. Let me share a pic of the cappuccino (the order was 2x cappuccino, 1x espresso and one doughnut)..... Doney Cafe Roma After that....the bill....I almost fell from my chair...normally a cappuccino is 1.20 Euro, an espresso 1.00 Euro and a pastry of any sorts 1.00 Euro....so in my opinion.....4.40 Euros....but because we are in Roma...maybe double.....well how WRONG I w
