Image
Dont worry....it is not an old post being re-posted....it is in fact a new post....hahaha....so because i loved the experience so much last time....we decided to do it again..Thanxs, Liezl for organising again.....this time my parents, Kim, Vanessa and her boyfriend and Liezl's friend would join us....a total of 8.....in hindsight...i think i would not have more than 6 people for an experience like this...8 was just too many....so again...we got the menu sent to us before hand so that we could prepare the wines...who brings what....menu looked exciting....we, our family, were in charge of getting the first three wines and Liezl the last 2.....so....what was the menu....well..let me tell you.....10 courses....wow....and the first course was tapas served on a wooden board...the tapas included carpaccio, tomato mousse with squid and dukkah spices....a tzatziki bubble yoghurt and a tripple cooked potato wedge with a mayonnaise.....the tzatziki bubble was divine....the squid and tomato

Pomodoro and Frenzi

Image
Hmmmm....which to start....lets start with my definite preference Pomodoro....at the Morningside Shopping Centre..... http://www.dining-out.co.za/md/Pomodoro-Ristorante/4572 We go there quite often cause Stefano, the owner, has an excellent variety on the menu, fair prices....and it just has a nice atmposphere....the starters always make my life difficult....should i choose ostrich carpaccio, salmon carpaccio, beef carpaccio, caprese with fiore di latte or buffalo mozzarella, parma ham with mozzarella, grilled calamari, steak tartar, vitello di tonnato.....and these are not all the starters....but it makes my life hard....hmmm....mozzarella i knew....but now...fiore di latte or buffalo.....ok...fiore di latte...now...tomato or parma ham.....ok...finally decision made.....my mom wants parama ham with fiore di latte and i will have tomato with fiore di latte.....simple...hahaha..... Kim had the calamari....mom the parma ham with mozzarella ball, me the tomato with mozzarella ball

Yes...i promised the Italian restaurant blog....but it will have to wait one round...cause first off...today, im in the mood to write about my second experience for SecrEATS.....when i received the invitation for the second SecrEATS dinner....i was so excited....the first one was brilliant and i was definitely going to go the second one....hmmmm.....i was raving about it to my parents....so i thought...why not take them and a friend of my dads.....so this time i was the main guest who was allowed to invite three people...again...it was R650 per person...and again venue and chef unknown....this time it would be on a Friday night and there would be two famous chefs....hmmmmm.....exciting....sounded promising.....again....we all got the email before hand asking about allergies, what we like doing in our free time etc....and Friday morning the venue was announced....a private home in Parktown North....we can be there any time after 7....and dinner would start at 8....secret sentence...&

Desserts....

Although im not the biggest dessert person....when i am bored....yes...i do somehow feel like baking something...scrambling through receipe books i do find some interesting things....so lets talk about my 3 interesting things i tried..... Mini apple crumbles (makes 3) -150g sliced and peeld apples (about 3) -7g caster sugar -5g light brown sugar -20g flour -15g butter -6 chopped peacan nuts (optional) -vanilla ice cream or custard for serving 1. Divide the sliced, peeled apples into 3 ramekins 2. Combine the sugar and flour then add butter and mix with fingertips until small sand-like clusters form, then add peacan nuts 3. Then sprinkle on top of the mini ramekins and bake in a pre-heated oven on 190 degrees for 35min..... 4. Allow to cool for about 10min then serve with custard or vanilla ice cream....divine.... (P.S. If you want to prepare, put apples with a hint of lemon juice in ramekins, combine dry ingredients and add the dry to the top of ramekins jus

SA coffee....

Image
Yes...i have been slacking a little....but i have been compiling evidence that SA coffee/ cappuccino is amazing (but i have to admit....i do tell them...please a little bit of milk and lots of foam).....so here are some top spots which definitely deserve a mention..... Coffee Roastery in Parktown North Coffee Roastery I would give that a 4.5/5....cup size perfect...strong coffee, thickish foam....why 0.5 less...cause the biscuit was ok and no choc sprinkle on the coffee....and no, this was not the first time i have been there....also...their carrot cake...definitely worth a try....different....but good....and the atmosphere....divine.... Woolies Nicol Way, Rivonia and Design Quater Woolies Rivonia At the Woolies i have to tell them how i want my coffee and most of the time they get it right....They are all consistent...strong coffee....thickish foam.....unfortunately no choc sprinkle (but they sometimes do amazing designs on them...so that will count for something) an
