Fornacino....again

Image
Yes, we have been there not even a week ago...but it was mom, dad, Sofia and me....Kim had not gone there, so i wanted to take him. So off we went on Wednesday night....kind of a date night. We were the first table there (19:15), we chose a corner table by the window and ordered some acqua frizzante...the wine list is extensive and it took us some time to choose the wine....i would have prefered a prosecco but kim thought red wine would go better....and i did not mind to compromise for a rosso di montepulciano. The one we wanted....unfortunately out of stock....but as i said their wine list is extensive, so we easily found another rosso di montepulciano. Once the wine arrived we ordered the starter.....to share...i told kim the tortino was very nice and i believe he would enjoy....so yes, we ordered the tortino di patate. What i loved was....it came already divided, beautifully presented on two plates, each tortino piece covered with ample cheese and ample tartufo, they were very gene

Wow...wow....wow....we loved it...and yes, we will definitely go back. We always drive past it, and somehow, there was just something that intrigued me, something that caught my eye...and i have been wanting to go there for quite some time...so finally, tonight was the time. The menu looked delicious and the wine carte was huge. Mom and i decided to share a prosecco and dad some Chianti red wine. Mom and i chose a bottle and when it arrived mom and i looked at each other....we do not like see through bottles, we just feel they seem cheap. So i told the lady, i am sorry but can we chAnge because we do not like the bottle, she changed without problems...and the one she recommened instead, was €1.00 cheaper...that i thought was great service. My dad's red wine on the other hand i thought was quite pricey at €5.00 per glass. Anyway....moving on....the menu looked amazing...in fact i really struggled cause there were quite a few things that i wanted to try....in the end we decided to s

Montisi....a quaint....very small....medieval village in the Southern Tuscany...beautiful.....this is the closest village to where we live....and this is a new little place. Let me share a pic... Montisi house Mom, dad and Mutti had been there before and said the food and atmosphere was great...service not the fastest...but nice....and also a great place with Sofia because they have a big terrace.....it was a sunny day...around lunch time...and spontanously we decided to go to this little place for lunch....of course on the terrace...beautiful views over the Tuscan hills. Kim and Sofia at the entrance Of course we ordered some Prosecco from Valdobbiadene and the men ordered draft beer...which came ice cold, exactly how they like it. We all thought we would go for one course....mom, Mutti and me decided to take a caprese salad and a Fiamma piatto (which is a mixture of all their antipasti) and dad and kim decided to have the 1/2 baby chicken with roasted potatoes. Let me share some p

Yes, we have been there before, and it is quite a nice little place also very nice for Sofia to roam while we are eating. They are really nice and friendly there and really love when locals come and not only tourists (yes, they know that we are locals and in fact they know is there). Of course when you come and and you get greeted like locals and by name....it really means a lot...hahaha. Today we were a little bit unlucky because the night before they had a big wedding from an Irish family (drank a lot and they were up until 4am). At 10am they had to open again and had run out of quite a lot of ingredients...hence...the normal menu was all available...but no specials...and that is a pity because the menu is not very big and not the most exciting...food is good...people are friendly and that is why we go....also because it is easy with Sofia.... Anyway....no specials....but.....anyway....so for starters we shared the caniglio (rabbit) stuffed with herbs and porchetta. It was very diff

Typical Corsica

Where to start....well, let's just say...what do i always do when i visit new places...try their local specialities (which of course i research) and their cappuccino...so let me start with the specialities.... Meat dishes....Civet de sanglier (wild boar casserole): one says....the signature dish of Corsica. This is a rich, hearty casserole with the flavour of wildboar, mixed with onions, carrots, garlic, chestnuts, fennel and red wine.....as you might rememeber Kim and i tried this as part of our set menu in Calvi...And we enjoyed it....for us though wildboar was nothing new as we often eat it in Tuscany....but we still enjoyed it...just so you remember...let me share a pic.... Wildboar casserole Veau aux olives (veal with olives): a slow cooked stew, full of flavour with tender veal, olives, tomatoes, onions and herbs with a generous portion of either white or rose wine...you might remember Kim and i tried this the first night in Calvi, as part of the set menu, then i tried it i

All about chestnuts....chataigne...marron....first of all let me share a pic of me picking chestnuts and how the it looks on a tree.... Chestnut tree Me attempting to pick a chestnut Now...chestnuts.....there are many things that can be done with them....they ones i knew best before Corsica was roasting them around Christmas time and "Vermicelle" which is a dessert...let me share some pics so that you can imagine. Roasted chestnuts Vermicelle But in Corsica....i got to try new chestnut flavoured things....let me start....chestnut tarte, that we tried in Evisa....remember with the vanilla sauce....delicious, and moister than expected....in fact it is a typical dessert for Corsica, let me share a pic again...just to remind you. Chestnut tarte Crepes, we all know crepes are very french, but normally with sucre (sugar). In Corsica it is very common that you see them with chataigne, chestnut sauce and also whole roasted, in syrup chestnuts....delicious...i absoloutely loved it.
