Lugano.....or at least close by

The name of the blog....Lugano...why...because if i would tell you the village we slept in...you would be like....where....where the hell is that....so i thought....lugano might give you a better explanation...for those of you who do not know. Lugano is on the Italian side of Switzerland, we were sleeping in Italy though...because food is better and accomodation cheaper. The village where we actually slept for two nights is called San Mamete. I must say the village, not very good, but close to other villages and quite a few restaurants...driving distance...so that is ok.

So from Cannobio to San Mamete we again took the scenic route via quite a few villages, first stop at a pasticceria in Maccagno, why there, cause the pasticceria looked nice. I had a cappuccino and we shared some sweets. The cappuccino was ok, the foam not thick enough....the sweets were delicious though.i loved the fact that we got a yummie chocolate with the cappuccino.

Our next stop, Mercote, a village which we were told was worth a visit. We were there around lunch time so we decided on an informal lunch.... Doner kebab....i know its not typical at all, but we could have it take-away and sit at the lake....then we were happy just strolling the little village and then having an aperitivo....local white wine and local beer...served with some peanuts and chips.....divine.

Mercote was cute and quaint...but to see if it is on the way, i would not do a detour to go see it. After that, we made our way to our hotel, where we had a small rest, walked the village and then decided to have an aperitivo at the local bar before going to dinner.

Dinner was in a village near by called Porlezza. The restaurant name was Trattoria dela Vigna , it wss quite high up...and if it was not recommended i do not think it is a place that we would have found. The food was delicious. For starters kim and i shared the green asparagus with parmiggiano cheese....yummie....

For mains kim had the tagliata with black pepper sauce and i had the veal scallopine with porcini mushrooms....both of us thought the food was wow...and quite a portion. Kim's meat was cooked to perfection, i cannot say which of the two main courses was more delicious. We shared a portion of french fries, which were shoe-string fries and very crispy....yummie. Let me share some pics....

We did not have dessert. Sofia was getting tired so we thought we would put her to bed and enjoy a glass of wine on the balcony. Another nice day...time just flew...tomorrow would be our last day before returning home, that will be my next blog though...so cheers...we chat soon....
