Fattoria la Vialla

Lunch time....on a farm....my parents have been there before with some friends from Germany and they all raved about the place, so guess what....i also wanted to see what the fuss was about and i also wanted to visit.....so off we went on a beautiful Wednesday. The fattoria, ram, is just outside Arezzo, so about an hours drive from our beautiful home in Montisi. The last little 2km is on gravel road, but it is not too bad. When we arrived around 1pm there were a lot of cars, i was very surpised, most coming from Germany, Austria and Netherlands....so i guess they must be doing something right with the marketing.

In fact, they send goodie baskets all over, so i guess when the people come to Tuscany they actually wanna see where their goodies come from. There is a factory on the property and you can see first hand how the production works.

The tables are decorated with blue and white checkered table cloths and they are spread-out all over the lawn, great for children and babies. Some tables are in the sun, but a lot of them are under some kind of natural pergola, very beautiful....

The menu is small....there is a local cheese & cold meat platter, then there is the local cheese & cold meat platter with the daily dish, there is is daily dish and then there are 3 salads. Also, the drinks menu is small, some cool drinks, wines and water.....no sparkling water and no beers. It did not bother us, but i do believe sparkling water should be available and one local beer....also the water that we ordered was luke warm so we asked for some ice, which they said they do not have....for me just a few small things that could be improved.
We asked about the daily special, which was a panzanella salad. Hence, we ordered two platters, one with the daily special and one without. Some of you might be asking...what is a panzanella salad...well, it is a very traditional tuscan salad, they usually use old bread (hard) and soak it in water and then it is mixed with onions, and tomato and basil....simple...but if seasoned correctly can be quite nice. This one needed some extra seasoning, but once we did that is was not too bad. Would i ever order it on a meny, probably not. The platters were beautifully presented and were delicious...and so was the home-made bread and condiments on the platters.....

Our lunch was accompanied by a locally produced wine...in fact by their farm. All their wines are produced by them, but they have a large variety, from rose to red to white...even bubbly. It was a hot summer afternoon, so we opted for a white wine....which was kept cool in a terracota cooler.

After lunch, mom and i explored their quaint shop which is in a cellar...with barrels...we found quite a few goodies from wine to olive oil to sauces....and biscuits....yummie....it all looked delicious and we were allowed to try the wines before buying them, which i always say...makes a huge difference. The prices are extremly reasonable, and i would say we would go back.

For me, the food is simple, but the atmosphere is just great...tables far away from each other...sofia could play on the grass, so the setting is great for a lazy, relaxing afteroon. So from me...good-bye...you will hear from me soon.
