Kotor, Montenegro

New....never been....i was excited to discover a new place. Of course i did a little bit of research and i read that in fact coming into Kotor with the cruiseship is a similar to the Fiords of the South.....so i said to Kim i want to be awake and on the balcony when we would be driving in cause we would only leave at midnight and by then i would not be able to see anything....so it was in the morning or not at all.

So around 6:45am we started entering the narrow parts...i must say it was pretty cool being so close to land on both sides. It took a bit more than an hour until we reached Kotor and the landscape is very pretty...it reminded me a lot of Dubrovnik, but i guess that makes sense, they are so close. Let me share a few pics...

We were tendering in Kotor, but it was rather easy, 5min and we were at the pier. The old town, was only a 5min walk, so it was very convenient. Again, it reminded me a lot of Dubrovnik with the old city walls around the old town and the gates that you have to go through in order to enter the old town. In Dubrovnik though, you can pay and walk on top of the walls and there is a cable car to get a view...in Kotor however, there are some spots where you can go up on top of the walls but just a few. There is no cable car but there is a very steep climb, around 1000 steps, an old fortress and from there you get amazing views. We, however, decided not to do this cause it was way too hot, 37 degrees, and we also had Sofia....so we opted to stroll the old town and then go for a lunch.

Here is a fact: The cathedral of Saint Tryphon is locally known as Sveti Tripun. It is a Roman Catholic Cathedral. After strolling and enjoying a cappuccino in the old town at Mariner, we exited the old town and found a lunch spot along the seafront. The cappuccino was not very good, the coffee a bit bitter and the foam too thin....but nice to try anyway, you know how much i like to try a cappuccino wherever i am visiting.

The lunch place was called Mondo. We chose it for two reasons, one, the pilot's son owns it, so we wanted to show some support and two the seats looked comfortable and it looked like Sofia could roam around without problems. I googled a little bit the local food and it said the dishes were influenced by the meditteranean, hence local also means pizza. So kim and i decided to share a capricosa pizza and a traditional salad made with local parma ham and local cheese.....to drink, i asked for a local wine and kim for a local beer. Sadly, the wAitress was not listening and i noticed too late that in fact she gave me glass of white wine froma Croatian wine as opposed to one from Montenegro....oh well....it was light and tasted refreshing. The food was ok, nothing wow, nothing i would run back to, it was decent.

Yes, we also had a mixed ice-cream each...consisting of chocolate, vanilla and raspberry, in fact it was brought to us on the house, nice gesture. I do believe that the waitress should imporve her english a little bit cause a few things went a little bit wrong....but nothing train smashing. After our lunch, we strolled back to the pier and took the tender back....time to enjoy the sun deck a little bit back on the ship.
It was nice to have seen a new place, another country that i can say i have visited. However, looks wise, very similar to Dubrovnik, price wise, a lot cheaper. So, from me...cheers....we chat soon...let's see about what....
