Bassano di Grappa

Another outing....but this time perfectly timed...why cause we decided to do it on a Saturday which means that Kim is in port and hence we could all go together....so at 9:00 we arrived at the cruise harbour in Venice to pick up Kim and make our way to Bassano di Grappa....weather...not very good...overcast...drizzling...oh well...i guess we would have to make the best of it.

Bassano di Grappa is about 50km north of Venice, but it takes a bit of time to go there cause there is no fast roads, also I guess it is nice cause one gets to see the countryside a little bit.....arrival there we of course drove to the old town and attempted to find a parking...which was not too easy.....unfortunately is was raining quite a bit, so strolling around the old town was not so much fun...but what we saw of it, it is such a cute little place, lots of shops, has a town square, and definitely worth exploring another time...when the weather wants to play with us.....

There was a beautiful market which I needed to stop at cause there was a cinghiale...and i just love wildboar salami...of course there were tasters and Kim and I actually thought we should buy one....let me share a pic of the stakl with you...

Market in Bassano di Grappa
After that it was time to go to the famous Grappa tasting place by the bridge....Kim had done some research.....the place is called Nardini

Grapperia on the Bridge is the historic location of Nardini, the oldest distillery in Italy and the only one established in Bassano, in the Veneto region. A truly fascinating place, that has witnessed the unfolding of key events in European history since 1779. The Grapperia, located on the eastern bank of the Brenta river, has been officially recognized as one of the Historic Places of Italy and has remained unchanged over the centuries. The perfect setting to savor a unique “aperitivo”, a place where locals and visitors mingle and experience the sheer magic of Nardini grappa and Nardini history. Let me share some pics of the location....

View when the weather is good...unfortunately not for us
Inside it was such a different place...looked old....lots of wood...just beautiful decoration.....wow....let me share some pics from inside....

Various Grappas behind the bar
What a place...and full full of Italians...really amazing...I guess tourist season is over...but what amazed me is that it was so full...we could hardly find a space whee we could sit down and try this famous aperitivo that everyone talks about.....well everyone...i mean on the internet...hahaha....once we found a spot we sent dad and Kim to get a drink for us all.....Kim decided to get a normal Grappa....pure...while the rest of us went for this Aperitivo....here is a pic.....
Grappa and Aperitivo
The question of course is....what is this...it is called Rosso Nardini.....a smooth, delicate, and fragrant. a timeless classic, a great aperitivo from Bassano. Orange, gentian root, Roman absinthe, quina and vanilla come together in a liqueur with a subtle frangrance and smooth falvour. A tradition in taste that continues to inspire everyone who tries it. It was quite strong, 24%, but i mist admit is was delicious.....after that...lunch was needed though....we went to a small little tratorria where we ordered some hoise red, house frizzante....dad and kim had the veal roast while Mutti, mom and I shared a cold meat platter and local cheese....it was very very yummie. After lunch we shared a tiramisu with a twist....so damn good...cecream on top...coffee ice cream and then the mascarpone and biscuit at the bottom....i will share some pics....

After our yummie tiramisu we ordered coffee and received a whole tin of biscuits...yum yum....so we really enjoyed our day trip....just sad that the weather did not wanna play along...oh well...next time...for now...cheers from me....chat soon....
