Calvi to Calcatoggio

Our next leg was from Calvi to Calcatoggio. In the morning we decided to take our breakfast at one of the local pasticcerias in Calvi...we found three next to each other which all looked good and had difficulty deciding which one, so we started at one end....saw amazing pastries and thought...ok, we stay here. So we ordered two cappuccini and a pastry.....only to be told...."desole, mais nous ne disposons pas de cappuccino"......WHAT.....they do NOT make cappuccino....well that was a disaster for me, so we went to the next place...just to be told the same....i said to kim, if we go to the third (and last) place and they say the same, i am just going to sit down anyway....but lucky us...third time lucky, name was o'delices de l'ile, and the lady actually informed us that yes, she has cappuccino. So we ordered two cappuccini and one Fiadone. It is essentially a cheesecake, but with a twist. Fiadone is a traditional recipe using Corsican brocciu cheese, eggs and chestnut flour that is then flavoured with lemon zest and eau de vie. Normally served chilled. It had not a smooth consistency but rather a bit grainy, it was not "oh my word wow" but it was not bad.....let me share a pic....

Now before I move on from Calvi....i am embaressed to admit that i totally forgot to share some pics from when we walked around Calvi yesterday evening....so let me share them now....

So....now we can continue....so after Calvi we made our way along the coast to Porto, again the scenery was very beautiful....let me share some pics....

As you can see...the scenery is breath-taking, just incredible. At Porto we did a small detour to a village called Ota past a place called Gorges de Spelunca....again...very beautiful and a lot of people taking dips in the river....we however decided to give the dipping a skip and find a quaint little lunch spot in Ota. We found a small cafe called Cafe de la Place. Owner run, very small menu with typical food, we sat outside on the terrace with a glass of rose wine and the food was very delicious. Let me share some more pics....

After that, we made our way back to Porto and then we started our way to Piana....by the way the beautiful Gulf of Porto is a protected nature reserve that has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This route between Porto and Piana features the Calanques de Piana. It is again, a very different scenery and stunning, full of cliffs. The Calanques are spectacular red granite cliffs with stunning pinnacles that tower 300 meters above the sea. This rugged landscape features typical Mediterranean vegetation and impressive bird life. The cliffs drop off into sparkling blue waters that beckon from the distance, really amazing.....time to share some pics....

Just stunning....but i cannot say that that was my favourite drive....i also loved the area before Porto as well as the North...it all has its beauty, truely spectacular. After Piana we had about 45 minutes to Calcatoggio where our next hotel would be....from Piano to Calcatoggio it was mainly along the coast, nice views but nothing oh my word wow....but still beautiful. At the hotel we decided to actually put on our costumes and take a swim.....we are overlooking the ocean....beautiful....here we will be staying for three nights and making round trips. In the evening we went to a restaurant called Les Tamaris, this was just 800m from our hotel, so very convenient. Kim decided to start with a beer followed by red wine whilst i decided to have rose. Our lunch was quite big so we decided to opt to have no starters. My main was the veal with olives (very popular dish) and Kim opted to have a pizza Bonifacio (thuna, olives and capers), we thought we do a half and half....meaning we shared....and i must say....again...both main courses were very yummie...

Given that we are in France, it is obvious that all restaurants have cheese as a dessert option....so guess what i had for dessert...cheese platter (kim decided to have a cigar).....the cheese platter was so yummie...now...let me explain a little bit about corsican cheese....cheese made in Corsica is made using either goat or sheep milk.... (Chevre- goat, Brebis- sheep) i must say sheep cheese i like...i mean i eat pecorino, however, goat cheese i do not like at all....however, i did not wanna do a fuss when ordering the cheese platter and i thought i would take a risk. I never thought i would say this....yes, i could taste the goat....but it was very subtle and i must admit i could eat it, in fact it was not bad at all, the brebis was delicious...the chevre ok.....the cheese platter was served with fig jam and caramalized onions....with crispy as well as fresh french baguette....it was very very yummie......even kim enjoyed a bit or two and thought...wow...delicious....this is when i love being in france.... They are cheese lovers like me....time to share my cheese platter....

So yes, i would definitely recommend this restaurant....was very yummie....now before i end my blog...let me share a pic of the beautiful sunset....after all the restaurant is situated right on the beach.....after that...i say cheers because i am getting hungry.....
