Zurich

The day we flew back to South Africa we decided to leave Radolfzell a little earlier and spend the afternoon in Zurich, kim has never been there and so we took the opportunity to show him before flying back out.....zurich is only about an hour from Radolfzell so it was very convenient.....

The best parking place in Zurich is the Urania parkade. It is literally in the centre, from there you have direct access to the old town and Bahnhofstrasse which leads directly to lake Zurich, which is where you want to be.....so as we arrived that is what we did, took a stroll down Bahnhofstrasse and headed towards the lunch place which i wanted to go to.....Zeughauskeller....let me share some history of it....

Zeughauskeller was actually built in 1487, at that time Switzerland was a budding confederation and much smaller than it is today. The name Zeughaus means that a lot of weapons and armaments of war were stored and mended in this house. Unfortunately, the middle ages were marked by more peace than war. In 1867 the new Zeuhaus was built and all weapons were moved there. In 1868 and 1925 there were two changes of ownership and the house was then used as residence. Since 1926 the Zeughauskeller as been a social meeting point. The menu has very traditional Swiss food...here are two pics....

It was such a beautiful day, that we decided to sit outside, it is right near the Paradeplatz which is also on Bahnhofstrasse 28A. Mom and i decided to order the famous Kalbsbratwurst (veal bratwurst) with Buerli (very very crispy role), while Kim went for the St Galler Schueblig, which is a smokey pork and beef sausage with potato salad....and man...the food was so delicious.....i loved it....every bite of it.....and so did Kim....the service i am not going to talk about...shocking, kim's food arrived when mom and i were almost finished with ours, we started to eat cause cold sausage is not really what i wanted...so that was kind of annoying, and when i actually asked the waiter where the food for kim was, he gave me a snotty answer like...i am very busy taking orders from other guests....what the......our bratwurst came with a delicious onion sauce...so very very yummie....let me share some pics....

After our lunch we took a stroll to the Zurichsee, enjoyed the views a little, of course we also stopped at Spruengli, the famous cafe and praline place and yes, we did each indulgence in a praline....so good.....here is a pic from the lake....
Kim and me at lake Zurich
We ended our day in Zurich having a coffee at the famous Honold bakery on the Rennweg, it is a very very famous bakery.....the cappuccino was excellento, kim also enjoyed his irish coffee...so we ended our day in zurich on a high. One thing i have to say though....zurich is bloody expensive, it is in no relation to other European cities, actually the whole of Switzerland...ridiculous....just an example...the cappuccino was SFr 5,90 (SFr is about the same as the Euro), in other countries, the maximum we paid was €3,50.
Anyway...moving on.....we enjoyed our day, so we forgot about the cost, close your eyes and get on with it.....after that..time to head to the airport, enjoy the business lounge a little and then fly back home to South Africa.....so from me...tschuessli
