Pizza.....pizza....pizza

Should i go from worst to best or time frame.....i think time frame i have done in my blogs so i will do worst till best....i know you might have seen some pics before hence this will be quite a short blog, but i think it is nice to have a summary about the various places where we had pizza and what we thought of them...if not interesting for you to read, and least it will be interesting for me to be able to look back at it......

So...the worst pizza....without a doubt was the one we had in Gaiole in Chianto, like I mentioned before, it was not the fact that it took so long to be served or that it was not wood-fired, but the base and cheese were not good at all....what a bloody disappointment...and just to remind you....i will share the pic....I mean you can see that the cheese is overcooked and believe me, this was definitely NOT a margherita......

Quattro Stagione at i gailletto briaco
Out of 10.....3....reason....at least it was thin...the second to bottom was unfortunately Terre di Baccio....let me explain, one night they had a pizza night anf invited us to eat at Terre di Baccio...and of course we took up the offer.....the first we got some slices of foccacia....a little bit thick to my taste.....next up was the plain margherita, what i loved was that it was fresh mozzarella and basil....the taste was great, but the pizza dough was way too thick and that was a real pity....so all the pizzas that we served the dough was just too thick....next up was margherita with sausage, ham and salami...again ingredients great, doug too thick....then came a white pizza, meaning to tomato base and that was done with peccorino and pears, very interesting combination....i liked it, Kim not too keen...the last one we managed to try was also a white one and then at the end cooked cherry tomatoes and burrato cheese was added (burrato is fresh mozzarella infused with cream), Kim did not really enjoy it, I did, although a little dry....unfortunately I will give a rating of 6.5. Their effort was amazing, their spirit to cook and the taste, it was just that the dough honestly was way too thick....but let me share some pics...

The thiird from the bottom was the one in San Marino, the dough tasted good, the ingredients were good, but the dough was a little too thick.....There also could have been a bit more cheese, but all in all, it was not bad.....i would give it a 7 out of 10
San Marino
The next one to talk about was our Venice pizza, this one we had after the Tuscany...let me fill you in, after the tuscany Kim and I drove to Venice (when we booked our trip we thought Kim had to join the ship, but things changed and he only returns later, so we still had that one night in Venice). So Kim and i went to our favourite Pizza place in Venice and had some pizza there.....it is just by the hotel Tinoretto....and it was good.....the thickness does not bother me at all cause the dough is just so yummie....so Kim and i were happy....we would give it 8.5 out of 10. Well deserved high score.....
Pizza in Venice
There is another high score of 8.5 and that is at the restaurant on the Campo in Siena....also not the thinnest but once again, the dough was fabulous so we did not mind, great ingredients and that proscuitto cotto (cooked ham) is just beyond this world, one cannot compare it to South African cooked ham at all...the only other country where ham is also amazing is France....what i also loved in Siena were the black olives and of course de-pitted....the pizza was great....and i love that some parts were black on the crust, that is my best....

So....last pizza I am going to judge....the one that won....was our first pizza when we were on the way to San Marino, at the restaurant called Cupola, in the middle of nowhere....it was softer, thin, maybe a little soggy, but Kim and I loved it....we give that pizza the highest rating during our Italian holiday and we will give it a 9 out of 10.....pic....

On the way to San Marino

Thin, great tasting dough, great cheese amount, perfect proscuitto cotto and the porccini mushrooms tasted amazing....so why not a 10 out of 10.....cause that for Kim and me are definitely the Naples pizza.....those ar unbelievable, yes, we also had a few that wee too soggy and not too great, but overall, the way they prepare the dough, that for Kim and me is the perfect pizza....let me see if I can find a pic to refresh your memorY....and yes, i went digging into my archives and i found 3 Naples pizza....
