Pizza and Bistecca Fiorentina

So....As i have already hinted before....we are back in Italy after just having been back home for exactly one week.....why are we back, well, we had some long family discussions and debates....and have decided we need to go back and see some things in Italy in order to make correct decisions for the future.....so off we flew back to the tuscany. Why we are stuck here now after one week....well that i will tell you about in one of the next blogs.....since being here for a week, we have tried some more pizza places and can thus rate 2 more places.....the first one Is in Greve in Chianti....place called La Cantina....its is just outside from the main square.....the verdict 7.5 out of 10....why...the mozzarella was a little too much cooked, the dough was thin, the ingredients a little scarce, but i felt the mozzarella was a little over cooked......

Next up.....pizza in Cavriglia called Ristorante Pitena.....this i would give 8 out of 10, the dough was nice tasting, could have been a little crispier, cause it was not super thin, but tasted nice, ingredients could have been a little bit more, but the mozzarella cheese was excellento.....

So, heRe we go...another 2 pizzas that we could rate...as you can see so far the best was the Cupola one, the one on the way to San Marino. We still have not found a pizza which is like Naples though...im starting to think it is in our fantasy...i think kim and i need to go back to Naples to see whether we have the correct rating in our heads.....but for now....let's keep it like this......

I have also decided to start rating bistecca fiorentina...why cause we have had quite a few ones now and i think it is deserved that we describe them....and of course rate them.....so let's start with the bottom.....The bottom is not bad....cause in fact they were all cooked the way we ordered them and they have all been juicy....interestingly though some places manage to give you a bistecca which is about 600g and other places they only start at like 1,2kg, but i will explain......

The place kim and i would rate a 8 out of 10 is the one he had in Florence in a place called Mangiafuoco, that was in a side street in Florence, near the Accedemia Gallery where we went to see the statue of David....we give it 8 out of 10 cause it was a little thinner than the other ones and it was missing the fillet part, they seem to do that quite a lot if you are wanting a smaller gram amount....it tasted great though...cannot complain about an 8 out of 10......

Then...an 8.5 out of 10 is the one we ate in Cavriglia.....that one was 1.2kg, but again, there was no fillet part cause then it would be even heavier....and that i do not think we could have managed. This bistecca was not 100% traditional cause it was topped with balsamic reduction, crispy bacon, porcini tapenade and some rocket....i thought it tasted absoloutely delicious, Kim liked it but would have preferred it without the balsamic glaze...it was cooked perfectly how we like it...al sangue. Let me share a pic with you.....

The next one receives a 9 out of 10, the main reason was cause it was 600g and both parts, the fillet and the sirloin were attached, the fillet was slightly overcooked but that was to be expected cause the sirloin side was thicker, that side was perfectly cooked al sangue how we ordered it......this was at a little restaurant just off the square in Greve in Chianti called Trattoria d'i Borgo......
Trattoria d'i Borgo
And the winner......9.5 out of 10 was also a restaurant in Greve in Chianti called La Terazza Oliosteria...it looks like quite a fancy place, white table cloths and all, but the prices are the same as anywhee else, but it is beautiful to be seated upstairs on the terrace, make sure you make a reservation. We had some starters to share, some tuscan cold meat platter and tuscan cheeses, delicious, this was followed by pappardelle cinghale (wildboar pasta) for kim and dad, caprese for me and mom had a truffle pasta....all delcicious....the meal was then ended with the 1.2kg bistecca fiorentina with roasted baby potatoes. The bistecca came only with the sirloin part, but this one was cooked to perfection, it was thick, the outside was black like charcoal, the owner came and cut it at the table for us, it was amazing....the reason is does not get the 10 out of 10 is because there was no fillet part....but this was definitely the best bistecca fiorentina....

Grappa

So....this particular meal was ended off with a Grappa for the men and mom and i received some chocolate truffels, very yummie.....so as you can see from this blog we have managed quite well to make our way through some various pizzas and bisteccas....so never say a pizza is a pizza or a bistecca fiorentina is a bistecca fiorentina, cause it is MOST DEFINITELY NOT.

I hope you enjoyed reading this food blog and i do hope that i made your mouth water a little....from me now..cheers....you will hear from me soon again....
