La locanda del castello

A night out...husband and wife...kim and me....our choice....la locanda del castello in san giovanni d'asso....we had heard about it...i have even seen the menu outside the ristorante and for some time we have been wanting to try it...tonight was the night...it was like a ristorante...white table cloths....but i loved how they left the archs in brick....

Inside restaurant

We booked a table at 7, early fo Italian standards, and yes, we were the first....but so what....the waitress was attentive and we asked her to speak in italian...after all we are learning the language. The owner also came to the table offering some suggestions on wine and later offered to add truffles to our antipasto, the chianina tartar.....so yes, our starter we decided to share and we decided on the chianina beef tartar with a poached egg....now let me share a pic...

Chianina tartar

It was absoloutely divine. Now here is a funny fact....kim never liked tartar and somehow after having tried it with me in Arezzo and after having received it (no choice) at La Porta (in my next blog), it was his choice to order the tartar tonight...and it was amazing...very very yummie and the presentation was top.

Mains, kim went for the cinta senese and i tried the trio of artichokes....both very very good...and again...presentation just wow.

Cinta senese

Trio of artichokes
You might ask...what is cinta sense...well, it is pork...and it is between a normal pig and a wildboar....here is a pic...as you can see...a black and white pig.
Cinta senese
Mine...the trio...one was raw salad of artichokes, one was cooked artichoke and the last was deep fried artichoke...i loved the cooked and the deep fried....the raw was ok, but i would not order an artichoke salad. But that being said...food was very delicious...we also orderd some grilled veggies which consited of peppers, aubergine and courgette and they were very delicious.
So what can i say....kim and i loved our romantic date night...and the food was very yummie....owner also came a few times to the table and at the end even offered us a grappa...how nice...thank you for a great evening...again soon please....and thank you nonna for looking after sofia so we could enjoy a great night out.
