Milano
A new city.....we arrived late morning and we would spend the day there before departing early morning to the southern part of Switzerland/ northern Italy....the lakes....but back to Milano.
Upon arrival we checked into the hotel...allowed Sofia to explore the room a bit and crawl a bit before departing for a well know Pasticceria called Bastianello....
Upon entering the waiters were all dressed in white jackets with bow ties....i felt a little bit out of place with my jeans...but looking around....most people were dressed casual.....
I loved the decor in the place...the little wrought iron chairs....it really looked inviting....
By now it was 13:00 and we were asked pranzare (lunch) or aperitivo....upon looking around we saw that the aperitivo platter (food) looked quite inviting so we asked for the aperitivo menu. My Aperol Spritz said €11.00....kim's birra said €6.00 or €11.00 (aperitivo). Wow....€5.00 difference...what kind of aperitivo were we expecting....well we were quite excited....let me share what arrived....and a pic of the aperitivo menu...was a whole book....and was wooden hard cover....just beautiful....
We thought...looks good....but for that price...quite heavy....anyway....we waited for the drinks....but meanwhile....the home-made crisps, the puff pastry, the gherkins and the marinated veggies were yummie and Sofia also enjoyed it. Then it was time for the drink arrival....and.....drum-roll......
We were pleasantly surprised.....we received a platter with salami, cheese, bruschetta, mini sandwiches and puff pastry roll....wow....and it was delicious.....lunch was not needed anymore...rather we thought an ice- cream afterwards cause the ice-cream looked so yummie and we all know how much Kim and Sofia love their ice-cream....the aperitivo was absoloutely great and i would definitely go back...definitely worth a visit....just so different...and so nice.
Ice-cream time....
Ice-cream choices
The ice-cream was amazing....absoloutely delicious...and price...normal....€3.00 for two HUGE scoops....very reasonable...Sofia loved it and of course Kim also...very creamy and very tasty...as i said earlier...i would definitely go back to this place.
Another pasticceria which was recommended was called Pave Milano....(i will skip to the pasticceria and then i will tell you afterwards about the rest of the day in Milano). We were told to go there for a breakfast treat...so after our night in Milano and after breakfast at the hotel the next morning, we went to this pasticceria....we were kucky to get a table...it was Sunday around 9:30 and it was pumping. We ordered cappuccino and a macchiato and then we chose a pastry to share....my choice...and i chose wrong...i wanted to choose a rasperry tart but kim did not want something heavy so i went for this almond pastry....kimpfel. I expected the typical nut kimpfel that i am used to from switzerland and i guess that is where it went wrong...i had something in mind and it definitely did not deliver. In fact i was highly disappointed. I should have gone with my gut insinct and i should have gone with the rasperry tart, I think i would have been very happy.
The cappuccino was great, strong, thick foam and also enough foam.....as we left there was a que to enter...so we did not stay long, in other words if you are looking for a slow morning...realxing...this is not the place...also typical italian breakfast...coffee and different pastries...that we expected....we did not expect eggs and things...and that also is NOT available...anyway...let me share a pic...
I would not run back to this place. I saw a lot of other pastry shops that i would rather try. The Bastianello pasticceria I would DEFINITELY go back to.....so this was my 50c on two pastry shops in Milano. Im going to end this blog...and next blog will be about our visit to the Milano catherdral. Lots of pics so i will leave it for next time. For now...cheers...hope i got your mouth watering.
