Captain Jack's Ceviche Bar and Monkey La-La

So....i did promise you in the ceviche blog that i am going to tell you about the place named Captain Jack's Ceviche Bar....its outside the tourist terminal...meaning...we anchor in Roatan so hence we have to take the tender boat in, once in, we walk through the "tourist village" where there are a lot of souvenir shops, excursion desks and a few restaurants.....so once outside it is about 200m and there you can find Captain Jack's Ceviche Bar...why did we go there...well have a look....

Don't you think it looks really cool....well we thought so and we love ceviche, so for us, it was an obvious choice. As you might remember, we ate the conch ceviche and we said we definitely go back....we also looked at the cocktails and the famous cocktail in Roatan is called Monkey La-La. I know...it does not really sound like a cocktail....but it is.....we should have asked what it was because i was feeling like something refreshing....something similar to a Margarita, but somehow i forgot to ask....so what came...definitely not like a Margarita...it looked like a milkshake....in fact...have a look....
Kim and the my Monkey La-La and his beer
Kim tried the Monkey La-La....and he loved it...for me...if i wAs in the mood for dessert...yes...but with the ceviche...not very complementary....that being said....the taste was good...very rich though...then i guess if i would have known what was inside a Monkey La-La...i would have known to order it as a dessert....hahaha. So here goes.....
Ingredients:
Ice
Kahlua
Bailey's
Vodka
Coconut cream/ milk
Chocolate syrup
Dark Rum (of course....we are in the Caribbean afer all)
Banana
Pineapple juice
Instructions: blend it all together...and you get a Monkey La-La.
So, yes....you have a very sugary, high alcohol content drink...in other words...dangerous cause you do not feel the alcohol. You might ask yourself...what's with the name...and here goes.... The drink is named after an ubiquitous lizard you will see running across the road up on its hind legs- the islanders call it a monkey la-la, but its scientific name is the basilisk and it is commonly known as the Jesus lizard because it can walk on water before sinking. I guess after drinking a few of them people try to walk on water...hence the name might be quite appropriate, hahaha.
So..order it, if you feel like something creamy and if you want the typical drink of the island. I will go back to Captain Jack's.....but not for Monkey La-La but for their food...specifically their ceviche.
Anyway...that concludes our experience at Captain Jack's.... See you again next time. Today....we have sea day....not great weather...going back to Houston....2 weeks already done on the ship....time just seems to fly. So bye-bye...we are off for some lunch now.
