Le Sel at the Cradle

So it was one of those Sundays where Kim and I thought it would be nice to venture somewhere different for lunch....to the countryside....and Kim had not been in the Cradle area....so why not go there....spontaneous decision on a Sunday morning....i had bookmarked Le Sel and thought id give them a call and hope they had a space....they informed me that it was a 3 course menu, set price, but various starters, various mains and a dessert buffet....so we thought...oh well, we might as well try.....

What a beautiful area, just 30 minutes from JHB and you think you are in the middle of nowhere....peacful, away from the buzz, just relaxing.....we parked and made our way to the restaurant...it was a little distance to walk and a quite a few steps down....damn, we would have to walk those steps up after lunch....hmmmm....we were seated on the terrace which was great, unfortunately at the back of the terrace cause the front tables are all table for four people....and the back and tabkes for two people...oh well....

There were quite a few starters to choose from and at the end I chose the baked caprese (sounded interesting) and Kim chose the duck springrolls.....the baked caprese was tomato mozzarella wrapped in phyllo pastery with a balsamic glaze, it was good, nothing to rave about, but it was nice....Kim enjoyed his duck springrolls also, good, but nothing to rave about....let me share a pic of the baked caprese...and duck springroll....

Mains.....we felt that they rushed us a little between starters and mains, after all if you go for a lazy Sunday lunch, you wanna take it slow...i chose the whole trout fillet baked in foil and Kim chose lamb shank....again, mine was nice, but nothing special, in my opinion quite plain, well cooked, but just nothing that stands out, Kim was disappointed with the lamb, he could not put his finger on it, but he was just disappointed....so yes...food so far was nothing to run back to.....let me share a pic of the whole trout....

Dessert buffet i did not think looked great, and i was right...first of all lunch starts at 12 and latest booking is at 3pm, the dessert stands outside the entire time...you can only imagine, it is not fresh and cool how it should be, the pecannut tart was dry and didnt have enough nuts, the brownie was dry and the rest we thought did not look that appealing, Kik was disappointed that they did not even have ice cream....for me, i just think when the eating venue is outside and it is warm, there should definitely not be a dessert buffet...standing for 3 hours...so yes, that was a big disappointment....and no, i did not even take a pic....

Overall verdict....i would not go back there and also, i would not recommend it...i think there are a lot more places out in that area and i would rather go there...i mean Bellgables, that restaurant is amazing, and decor there is just st wow...that is one i would definitely go back to...i would also like to try roots...but le sel, nope i would not go back to it....enough said now.....i am off to the hairdresser to get some colour done, need to organise myself a little...i mean look after myself a little...colour is in dire need....

So cheers from me....next one will be about Kim and my outing with the KTM bike to a food place by Haartebeespoort Dam....cheers
