Rome.....part 2

So....day 2....like i said...started off with some good cappucchino and a chat about what we should do....how about a stroll towards the Castello d'Angelo....which is near the Vatican....we both had never been inside...so that sounded like a plan...walked down Via Nazionale...of course stopping at various shops...from typical Italian food to kitchenware to painting shops....and then towards the fresh produce market....a small stop just to show kim....i just love all the various pastas they sell...the colours...shapes....and all the vinegars and dips and fresh produce and not to forget....truffles.....from whole, to chopped to dips...never ending....so before i write endlessly....here some pics....first me in a typical deli food shop...then some market pics....and then...i have to add an "artistic" pic...we all know how much i love buildings...such a cool terrace...

Funny enough.....we didnt make it to the Castello without Kim wanting another coffee....we found this arb hole in the wall shop...no tables matching...all full of antique things for sale.....and in the middle of this whole shop a few tables at which you could have a coffee....what a cool atmosphere...coffee was ok....wouldnt run there...but i loved the atmosphere...so it was a good experiene...and yes...i do have a pic...

Castello d'Angelo...nice to see...but would not go there again....we didnt do the Vatican cause we want more time for that...hence we did the Castello...and anyway both of us had done the Vatican before....in my opinion...if you have seen all the major sites in Rome...yes...go see the castello..but its not so sad if you never have managed to see it...what i loved was the architecture....and the view from the top was fab....cause you could see the Vatican...that was a great sight....inside it is well preserved...the rooms are beautifully painted and still have the original wooden floors....right at the top is also a small caffeteria which when summer, i could imagine, would be quite nice to indulge in a cappucchino and enjoy a spectacular view of the Vatican

And the rest of the day....of course...consisted of strolling around....from the Castello it was off towards Via Corso......found a nice local lunch spot.....some nice proscuitto and buffalo mozzarella and of course a glass of wine....encore the Trevi Fountain....Kim needed to buy a tie...and he has his favourite spot there.....then..of course it was time to have something sweet....apple pie....as if that was not enough....a pistaccio magnum...yes....you heard correct pistaccio...the first time Kim and i tried it, was in Naples last year...and ever since then we have fallen in love and havent found it...but lucky us....in Rome we found it...and of course...eventhough we had apple pie...who can resist pistaccio ice cream.....

And last BUT def not least...time for an apperitifo before departing to Civvi where we would spend the night before starting work tomorrow.....campari soda for me please....i just love how they do it in Italy...lots of campari and very little soda and then a slice of orange...and of course with apperitifo we got mini pizzas.....chips and peanuts...happy camper me....kim found his cigar and beer...and he was also a happy camper...

Before departing we decided to visit the church opposite which we were staying....Maggiore....it looked huge from the outside...and once inside...so impressive...its just so amazing how all these churches are so grande inside...really beautiful...so much attention to detail and still so well preserved..one just cannot believe it...its just really wow....

After that....taxi ride to our hotel San Giorgio in Civvi....where we spent the night...dinner consisted of a bad pizza...and yes....surprise surprise NOT all pizzas in Italy are super...but in all honesty this was the first time i was disappointed....so much crust and all covered with just tomato base...but so greedy on cheese...i was very disappointed...and the olives...they just threw whole ones on...not even de-pitted...what the hell...anyway...not going back there....dessert we spotted babas (remember the soft gooey cake thingy covered in rum which we discovered in Naples)....but it was also bad....damn.....anyway.... Here a pic of the pizza....notice the crust and lack of cheese....

we bought some bubbly at a supermarket and enjoyed a relaxed evening with bubbly in the hotel....tomorrow work starts.....9am pick-up....so cheers for now...next blog from the ship.....oh....before i forget...remember i mentioned the place we went for dinner yesterday with the chalk and hard to explain...i managed to find a pic...i knew i had one...just needed to figure out which camera chip....hahaha
