Rome....and yes....again....part 1

So....soon time to sign on...but before...lets have a chat about Rome...well not really a chat...cause a chat would mean it is a 2 way street....but im the only one writing...hmmmm....am i talking non sense.....ok...lets get to Rome.....we, as in Kim and I arrived late on Sunday evening....so we went to our hotel....yes...the famous one that i stayed at with my Mutti, then once with my mom and now with Kim....called B&B Maggiore.....simple, clean and def value for money...you have to walk a little to the sites...but nothing unmanageable....at the hotel we had some chianti, proscuitto and mozzarella....relaxing......

So...what did we explore the first day....of course started off with cappucchino....and then off to the Colesseum....wow...hardly a line...thats amazing...i guess going in the morning is worth it....we decided to take a guided tour as we thought we might be able to learn a few things....and here are some intersting facts:

The Colesseum is the largest amphitheatre.....it holds 50 000

Construction of the Colosseum began under the rule of the Emperor Vespasian[5] in around 70–72 AD

The arena continued to be used for contests well into the 6th century, with gladiatorial fights last mentioned around 435

Interestingly....slaves fought against slaves....slaves NEVER fought against animals.....BUT hunters fought against animals

The bottom row was for the rich, then the middle class, then the poor and right on top was reserved for women....unbelievable

The Colesseum was covered, but the arena, which is in the middle was open and the "backstage" was below the arena

Occupying a site just east of the Roman Forum, its construction started in 72 AD[3] under the emperor Vespasian and was completed in 80 AD under Titus,[4] with further modifications being made during Domitian's reign (81–96).[5] The name "Amphitheatrum Flavium" derives from both Vespasian's and Titus's family name (Flavius, from the gens Flavia)

With our new camera we took pics....the new camera....well..i need to get used to it...cause it does not always allow me to take a pic the way i want to take it...hmmmm....never mind....ill get used to it in a while....at least i hope....so here are some pics....

Then...time to take a stroll past the roman forum....past circus maximus and then to Travester for some lunch....now we had a few wishes....wine...pizza and sit outside in the sun....we found a quaint little spot and the decision was to order a pizza which we had never had before....funny enough we both picked the same....carbonara...pizza with mozzarella, bacon, parmesan and egg (yes, no tomato)....sounded interesting...of course some wine....and we were happy....pizza was very nice and so was the wine...and yes of course....here are some pics....

The rest of the afternoon was spent strolling streets....first stop was the Pantheon....i had never been inside so i wanted to go and see...what an impressive building and really beautiful inside...worth taking 10 extra minutes and going inside, here some pics....

The day continued with eating cherry coated pastry and dark chocolate pralines and of course going to my favourite ice cream shop...the one with 150 flavours....we ended up with....amarena and chocolate, fig and walnut and yoghurt with mixed berries.......verdict...the best was the yoghurt with mixed berries....well that is my opinion....kim would say the choc with amarena.....a further stroll took us to Trevi Fountain where we had some macciato and a further stroll towards the Spanish steps where we relaxed and soaked up the sun....so divine.....and then a stroll back to the hotel with a stop for leather jackets.....and yes....plural.......amazing prices and amazing quality....here are some pics from the afternoon...

Evening...we were not going to walk far....so we took a side road near our hotel and found some really cool restaurants...ended up in one that we just loved the look....so different...inside there were chalk boards and people had painted on them with chalk and all different colours....hard to explain...

We got half a glass of prosecco as we arrived and then we ordered some food and house wine...in Italy one can def order the house wine...can hardly go wrong....excellent food.....wine...and of course not to forget.....company....but i dont think i need to mention that...its kinda obvious....yes....i think so....what a chilled day....lots of walking...but i love to walk....and looking forward to another walking day tomorrow....what we are going to do....that is still open...let's decide tomorrow over some, yes, you guessed it, cappucchino.....
