Irakolin

So....after Jerusalem....next stop would be Irakolin...im a little upset that it will always be a Sunday....cause Sunday in Europe....hmmmm....lets just say it is pretty dead cause most shops are closed....not like the States or South Africa....where we are very spoilt that shops, restaurants are open on Sundays....you get so used to it...that when things are closed on Sunday u thinking...what the hell.....

So....i have never been to Irakolin...decided to do some sight seeing on my own...with my friend the umbrella....bad weather...well drizzle when i left.....i had the map with the tourist spots and decided to just arb around a little...look at the main stops, sites and then have some cappuccino.....i was supposed to go out with a friend...but somehow we managed to miss each other....and sometimes i like just wondering on my own....so off i went.....

Walk towards the main street....passing the Venetian fortress which i thought would be a nice stop at the end....so the main road had some life...but can u believe Starbucks was closed....what the h***......oh well...im not a Starbucks coffee fan.....but the point is...even Starbucks was closed.....so....first thing i saw was the Angios Titus church....just a nice building....here is a pic....

Stroll a little further and i bumped into the Moronzini fountain....nice...but unfortunately because it is winter...no running water....so yes....i took a pic...but it isnt so wow....so not sharing....of course i did have a little aim of where i was going....irakolin is surrounded by an old fortress...and has a number of portals which served as entrances and exits into the city...so that is what i actually wanted to see....but on the way of course i could do slight deviations to see some of the points of interest.....so when i finally reached the walls.....i was a little disappointed...not sure what i expected....but i thought it would be a little bit more fascinating....so a little let down.....also the Tomb of Nikos Kazantzakis....very disappointing...looked like it was about to fall apart...hmmmmm...strange...the portals all looked pretty much the same...nothing wow....but ill share some photos...just so u know that im not exaggerating my disappointment.....the first pic is one of the old portals....second pic.....the tomb....third pic part of the fortress and me being a little artistic by adding my umbrella....well also to show u that it was raining....hahaha.....and maybe a reminder to myself that it was raining.....

The drizzle turned into a pour...so in my opinion that was a hint to find a coffee shop...found this arty coffee shop....hole in the wall...so cool...tables and chairs missmatching...loved it....full of locals....but....coffee shocking...and wow....i dont think i have had such bad coffee...foam was bad....but it was filter coffee...how can u make cappuccino with filter coffee....shit....and yes, i do have to swear...cause it was terrible....after certain coffees i didnt think it could get worse....but this one def takes the cherry....damn.....anyway.....when the downpour stopped i thought id slowly make my way back...but of course going past one more place of interest....Angios Minas Cathedral....and that was impressive....what a beautiful cathedral.....def worth walking past that and taking in the site......

Then...slowly walking to the main road....past another famous fountain....Bembo fountain...again no water running which was quite sad....interstingly the fountain has a statue in front...but the statue has no head....would have been interesting to know why....might be some interesting story....like that it was an artist and he only became famous when he was be-headed....ok.....excuse me....but i have nightshift at the moment...it is now almost 4am..i have slept exactly 3 hrs....so im a little tired....so i might not be making the most of sense.....moving on.....last stop...like promised....Venetian fortress......i love the small little fishing boats in the harbour....i loved those little fisherman boats much better than the actual fortress....hahaha...so here are the pics....u can decide yourself whether u prefer fortress or little fisherman boats....

So....then time to go back....was quite a rush in the end....i didnt realise how time just flew.... strolling around...was fun...but im sad its Sunday cause i also saw a lot of little furniture shops...with a hint of french touch that i would have loved to go into...and everytime we are here its Sunday....my next aim is to go see the Knosses palace.....well next time im nightshift and my parents are here....so maybe we can all go together....cause there is not much else to do there on a Sunday.....yes....i prob have repeated myself enough now about it being Sunday....sorry.....ok....now ill stop writing.....now its just after 4..... Have another 4hrs left....wow....how to pass time...i have updated reports...replenished goods....santitized......hmmmm...maybe some time for emails now....hmmmm....or reading.....my kindle broke though....so have to read hard books.....hmmmmm......im gonna read the short version of long walk to freedom.....and if i like it....i might consider the long version....ok cheers now...i think im rambling......so better stop.....
