Random Finland

The last blog normally consists of a random few moments while we were in Finland...and this one is no exception...I have some random facts and pictures which I would love to share....

With no exception, we went to the coffee shop which we always go to.....the name....Cafe Rongo....not in the Old Town.....of course Kim and I like the cappuccino there and I LOVE the carrot cake. This time we went there twice....and the cappuccino was not as good as we remembered....the carrot cake though was still simply delicious....but quite a small piece...yet still very yummie....good balance between the cake and the icing. Kim was a little annoyed because the one time we went he felt like a Coca Cola (they do not have any of those "name" drinks) and when he opted for a normal beer their answer was that they only had craft beer...this annoyed Kim.

Would we go back...probably not in a hurry. I think the main reason we went back a second time was because it is very convenient with Sofia. They have a small kids corner with a box of toys...so for Sofia it was perfect...and Kim and I could actually enjoy our cappuccino and carrot cake without having to get up every 2 minutes...so with small kids...perfecto. Now time to share some pics...

We were there the last weekend of September and they had a huge market in Borgo. In fact it was a market for 2 days and then it would move to Eastern Europe....it travels all around this market. So of course the one day we also decided to visit it and yes, we did find a few interesting things to buy. Most of it...of course...food items...let me share some pics and also share some explanations....

Muikkuukukko
This is a type of rye bread which is stuffed with muikkuja (vendace fish) and also pork fat....it is very very yummie. To eat, either slice it and then eat it cold with butter and a slice of cheese (for example Emmenthaler) or eat it cold with butter and a slice of cheese (for example Emmenthaler). I prefer it heated up in the microwave but then cold butter and cheese on top....love it...very good.

Now...another pic....
 Omenalortsy (Apple Pie)

This was also so damn good....warm apples with warm dough around it....it is like a doughnut dough...again...very yummie...but for me a little bit too big...was definitely good to share.

So yes....there was great food...but what I alwasy say...they do not make a lot of salad or vegetables...always when it is home time...i cannot wait for salad and vegetables...a lot more fatty cooking there...then again I assume it is because they have many months very cold weather....and one would like something homey.

Let me share a last pic of the three cousins...Sofia, Rick and Ben.
