Aland Island
So, as promised...let me tell you a little bit about the what we did in Aland during the three days. on all three days we decided to go for long walks in the morning...and while walking we discovered this small place with animals......called....Lilla Holmen, its a small island just a few hundred metres from the city centre. the animals which we could see were peacocks, rabbits and parrots....Ben and Sofia loved it, and in fact every morning we walked there and "played" with the animals....let me share some pics....

They also have a small little public beach on the island with a playground and of course we also played there....enjoying the autumn weather and of course the autumn landscape....let me share some more pics.

So yes, if you have children Lilla Holmen is very nice to visit...just nice to walk in the nature. As we all know we also tried many places for Aland's pancakes and we also checked out all the various shops and little shopping centres. In one of them we even found a children's corner where Ben and Sofia played with the 'kitchen". I must say our days just flew past.
One of the days we also visited the other side of Mariehamm (that is the city we were staying at) and went to view the Pommern ship. In fact it is a museum nowadays, but unfortunately it had already closed for the season so we could not visit. Seeing the outside was impressive though, it is a beautiful ship. Let me share some facts: Pommers is the world's only big sailing ship kept in original arrangement. She is a typical cargo centre, built in 1903 in Scotland and bought by the Aland shipowner Gustaf Erikson in 1923. Pommern has carried timber from Scandinavia, saltpetre from Chile and grain from Australia. Her last commercial voyage was done in 1939 and since 1952 Pommern has been moored at this spot as a museum ship. Of course we took some pics from the outside....let me share some pics:

We also walked to the memorial statue...basically any person that has died at sea....quite beautifully done...here is a pic...

I must say...the time just flew for us. One evening we were also invited at Kim's friends for dinner...he made some Finnish sausages for us...very yummie. He had typical Finnish log cabin on the river...rather quaint...let me share some pics...

Now before I end my blog let me share a last few pics...one of Sofia and Ben playing outside, one of Ben and Sofia "cooking" and one of the typical houses...those I just find so beautiful. Then I must say cheers and we chat soon.
