Family time

So...Friday night when we arrived we had dinner at Kim' parents house, Kim's mom made Meatloaf with peas and beans and of course....potAtoes (no meal is complete without potatoes in Finland)....it was very yummie and i am sorry to say, but i did not take a pic....i did however take a pic of dessert which was a cream, apple and prune cake with cardamon spices. They love cardamon spice in Finland, in fact a lot of the desserts are spiced with it...so if you do not like it...oh oh....it is quite a distinctive flavour. Let me share a pic of dessert....

Saturday evening we were invited to Katja's house for some dinner...she prepared the fresh salmon and when Kalle (her husband) came home he smoked it on the grill....it was soooooo yummie...i think i had about three helpings, no joke. This was accompanied by roasted vegetables; beetroot, potatoes, carrots and onions....it was very yummie....let me share a pic of the salmon....

For dessert she made a type of apple crumble with vanilla ice cream...the apples were soft and juicy and not too sweet which was fab...the crumble for me was missing sugar....it needed to be more crunchy and more sweet...but that is just my opinion...let me share a pic...

The next day we were celebrating Rasmus' (Sofia's cousin) 16th birthday....at 17:00....so before that, we spent most of the day outside. Kim took Ben, Rasmus and Rick to see the Finnish army exhibition and I took Sofia for a stroll...we would meet for lunch at the army place. Lunch was traditional pea soup with Knaeckebrot....the pea soup contained whole peas and smoked ham...it is soooo good...and the knaeckebrot is two slices on top of each other with butter in between...yummie...let me share pics...

Of course there was also dessert.....Ben wanted pancake with strawberry jam, while Kim and i had a munki (a Finnish round doughnut stuffed with apple jam). Rick and Ramus opted for the bulle dough which they then cooked themselves with a stick over the fire.....like a sweetish dough, often stuffed with cinnamon (this one was just plain dough). I tried all desserts...and i must say, I made the right choice with the munki...it was soooo yummie..again cardamon spice was present...time to share some pics...

Now...let me share some pics of Ben enjoying trying on the army gear, which by the way weighs about 35kg, and of Sofia enjoying the swing outside...

In the evening we celebrated Rasmus' birthday at Kim's parents house....the food was soooo yummie...then again, with me and salmon and the sweetish black bread and cheese...you definitely cannot go wrong. There was also roast beef, salad and stuffed eggs.....which i tried all...but the salmon and sweetish black bread was my favourite without a doubt....time to share some pics...

The cake...no pics....it all happened so fast....it was a vanilla, caramel and apple cake...very yummie. Before i end this blog let me share a last few pics from the past three days....because tomorrow we are off to Aland.....
