Lapland....part ett

Lapland....rovaniemi....actually where santa claus is from.....where to start...We are having an absoloute blast up here....loving it....we are renting a cute little finnish chalet right by the slopes....near the santa claus village of rovaniemi. The chalet even has a sauna....of course we wanna ski and snowboard, see the santa village, do snowmobile and eat some finnish food....the four of us....kim, ben, rasmuss and me.....three of them decided to ski while i decided to snowboard.....it was a little bit of a debate because i saw t-bars which in all honesty are not my favourite at all....but then again...i think im more comfortable on the snowboard.....first night....yes...we wanted some finnish food....so pyttipanna it was...what is that....basically it means lef overs...it is pieces of potato, sausage, ham, onions and en we addd a fried egg....supposed to eat it with beetroot...but kim forgot....so without it was....anyway...it was delicious.....let me share a pic

Pyttipanne

So...of course we had to go visit Santa Claus village...actually that is also the place where the arctic circle line runs....that is the line 66.5 degrees north....The region north of this circle is known as the Arctic, and the zone just to the south is called the Northern Temperate Zone. The equivalent polar circle in the Southern Hemisphere is called the Antarctic Circle. The Arctic Circle is the southernmost latitude in the Northern Hemisphere at which the sun can remain continuously above or below the horizon for 24 hours (at the June solstice and December solstice respectively). North of the Arctic Circle, the sun is above the horizon for 24 continuous hours at least once per year (and therefore visible at midnight) and below the horizon for 24 continuous hours at least once per year.

The Santa Claus village was beautifully done...and beacuse this time of year it is not so touristy we got a lot of time with Santa Claus....the boys even managed to tell Santa claus what they want for Christmas....Ben even made Santa Claus write it down so that he would not forget....after visiting Santa Claus we also walked to the Arctic Circle line and of course we had to jump over this invisible line...felt cool to be so far north....and yes...there was also a lunchsome creamy salmon and potato soup...some reindeer pie and some fried fish with mashed potato...called.....silakkapihvit

And let me tell you a little about the ski and snowboarding...of course we hired our stuff and then off we went up with the t-bar...it is one lift that takes you up and down...not very big slopes...but still a lot of fun....everyone was enjoying...and yes...when you come down the lift there is a small little cafe where you can have some fries, hamburgers or fried chicken baskets....which the one day we did...buckets of deep fried chicken fingers with chips and deep fried onion rings, chicken nuggets and chips...talk about eating junk food...definitely this Lapland trip was a lot of that...but i guess that is what holidays are for.....

Skiiing and snowboarding..the boys even tried some jumping with the skies and loved it....all in all it was good fun.....relaxing...and the good part..it was not too cold....kim said it can be in the high season up to minus 30...no thanx.....much better for the temperature to be at 0....

And like i was saying...lots of take-away...of course we had to try the famous take-away pizza...Koti pizza....and we went for the americana (pineapple, ham and gorgonzola) and the best one reindeer with egg...that was delicious....i love reindeer meat...the dough was a little thick....but the pizza was all in all good...

So...next time you hear about some other adventures we got up to while in Lapland....so cheers for now
