Franshhoek to Cape Agulhas
Yes...let's not even get started at what is happening to my blog....i probably lost a few people along the way cause i have been slacking so much...no excuse other than hard work witht the new restaurant we opened in SA....but more about that in another blog....let me write about part II of the bike trip now....which was from Franshhoek to Cape Agulhas with a stop at Betty's Bay and Hermanus.....we left Franshhoek all in full gear..and yes...i do have a pic
Beautiful day...we took the following way....from Franshhoek over Sir Lowry's Pass....wow...the wind was hectic....in actual fact i thought we would be blown over....just after the Pass, Kim stopped and i actually had to get off the bike...my sunglasses then blew off my head....and Diana and me were almost blown away...really...no joke...so it was better for the men to handle the bikes without someone on the back....about 15km after Somerset West the wind died down...and back on the bike it was for me....so this being the first trip for my dad...he has already experienced very narrow curves and bends....hectic wind....damn...he is learning real biker style...let me share a pic of the views....
Kim's route then took us past Pringle's Bay to Betty' Bay where we decided to take a stop and go look at the African penguins...there are two protected areas for the penguins...one in Simonstown and one in Betty's Bay....the penguins are so cute...the way they walk...or attempt to walk...and so many of them....really nice..
Next stop....Hermanus for some well deserved lunch...well at least for the boys who did all the various driving...car or bikes....we found a spot...with a great view right in the centre and had some deep fried basket lunches...fried squid or fried prawns etc....was good...nothing wow...but good....and we all know Hermanus...there is not too much to see, so after lunch we continued to our destination...Cape Agulhas...again..the scenery was just breath-taking...what a beautiful country...Kim really chose amazing routes....
Arrival in Cape Agulhas was again met by very strong winds...and i must say...i am not a fan AT ALL to be on the bike when it is this windy...makes me feel like the bike will tumble..it probably will not...but the feeling that it might...is enough for me....anyway...let's move on from my opinion....the guest house was quaint....an old wooden house...we decided to see the most southern point in Africa and the light house before it got dark...so literally bags got dropped in the rooms and off we went....the light house is beautiful....in actual fact its design was inspired by the Pharos of Alexandria (the lighthouse of Alexandria).....
Then we walked....and walked....and walked....to the most southern point of Africa...the point of Cape Agulhas....was a beautiful walk...wooden pass ways...and the scenery with the ocean...just stunning...my dad even tried the water temperature...but looking at his face and hearing the shouts....it must have been cold....hahaha....once arrived at the most southern point...of course we had to take numerous pics...it is also where the two currents meet..the Indian and the Atlantic ocean.....
In the evening we decided to eat the set menu at the guesthouse, a three course meal....it started off with an amouse bouche...mussels in a creamy curry sauce....followed by the starter of quail and then mains....beef fillet with a creamy mushroom sauce...and dessert....i honestly do not remember...i forgot to take a pic....hence i forgot...yes...i could bullshit and tell you something...i guess you wouldn't know...but i am not like that...hahah....the starters as well as the fillet was divine...perfectly cooked....our night ended with a smoke in the cigar lounge, well a smoke for the men (yes, the guesthouse actually had a cigar lounge)....and a sherry for the ladies..divine....what a grat day..tomorrow off to Oudshoorn....a game reserve called buffelsdrift....
Ahhh missed you over here!
