Bike trip...Jhb - Dullstroom

Why not explore the north of the country with a bike....nice roads...nice sites and good weather....and of course good company.....Kim and I have been planning a little....booking some guest houses and on Thursday we finally left...both of us very excited....on a.....

Kim and Harley Davidson, FLHTCUSE6, CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide

...what a name:-)

We started in Pta.....14:00 was the start....we had driven from Jhb at 13:15, got to Hatfield and 14:05 left Hatfield....our first night stay would be in Dullstroom....230km to go.....both dressed in driving pants and t-shirt, jersey and jackets.....we drove around 110km before we decided to take a short rest at the Ultra City jst after the Middleburg Toll Gate....you should know...that was one of the only stops on the way to Dullstroom.....it had a Brazilian cafe so we managed to get some good espresso and yes....Takis Biltong (ostrich)....we took about a 30min break before heading off again....around 16:00, we were about 40km from Dullstroom...and one could feel it was getting chilli.....but soon we arrived at our self catering cottage called Bella's.....

A little bit about Bella's.....it cost us R500 for the two of us (no breakfast).... Description was self catering cottage with fully equipped kitchen, under carpert heating, wood fire place and electric blankets.....now....when we arrived the cottage was freezing....and i soon discovered under carpet heating was quite literally just UNDER the rug.....NOT UNDER the TILES.....hmmmm....fire place was more for show cause it didnt heat up anything...and unfortunately only the one of the two electrical blankets was working...but you know what.....we survived and it was fun....Kim and I had bought a french press/ thermos and our own Columbian coffee...so in the morning, Kim spoilt us by making coffee in bed....amazing....

Bella...me let mom know we have arrived sfely

But before i talk about the morning...i of course have to tell you what we did in the evening....first we went for happy hour (two for the price pf one), to the local pub, Duck & Trout, the peanuts we got were divine...the were roasted and still had the shells on...i loved them....defninitely a place to visit when staying there are night....and then for dinner Bella's gave us 3 recommendations....Kim and I saw "Mrs Simpson" and fell in love with the cosy look and thus looked no further (the other two recommendations were Mayfly and Fibs)....we didnt make a reservation and we were lucky to get a table....the place was packed....next time...ill def make a reservation (and I mean we were there on a Thursday)....

The decoration is amazing...so homey and there is shoes all over the place....the one pair of shoes is a jimmy Choo and cost R7000, but next to it is a pair of shoes that cost R12 000, unbelievable...

The shoes....and so it is all around the restaurant

The menu is a blackboard hanging on the wall...and there were quite a few things that caught our eyes....but the starter we ended up having is actually the starter they are known for....is the black snails in a garlic and gorgonzola sauce....wow....that was so amazing.....

Menu

Baguette with black snails and a gorgonzola and blue cheese sauce

The mains...again...difficult choice....i def wanted to have the almond stuffed trout (after all that is what Dullstroom is known for)....and Kim was debating between the duck and the lamb shank....and ended up with the lamb shank....which fell straight off the bone....my trout divine...topped with crispy almond slivers and the thick chips...so crispy...so damn good...and so were the vegetables...just an excellent meal all around...dessert...we didnt have any more space...so we gave that a skip....but the menu looked promising from apple crumble to creme brulee....

Us enjoying or wine at Mrs Simpson

Trout with thick chips and veggies

Lamb shank, mash and veggies

The night...chilli...but we survived it..tomorrow we hope is warmer.....
