Conte Matto

So....before Kim left for the ship we decided to have a pre-birthday celebration. Some say it is bad luck but we believed that it would be nice for Kim to celebrate a little bit before departing for the ship. So of course it all started with the baking of a cake...and of course Kim's almost favourite (after banana marzipan cream pie), the good old carrot cake....of course with marzipan.

Mom bought this new gadget to make a cake...and I must admit it looked rather fabulous. She saw it on the show "in der Hoelle des Loewen" and ordered it online...this was all accompanied with a Champagne...yes, real Champagne....enough said...let me share a pic...

In the evening it was Kim's wish to go out for dinner...to try a new place...called Conte Matto in Trequanda. When we arrived we were the only table...so we had a lot of space, which was great because Sofia could roam around and enjoy herself. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco and a bottle of Vino Nobile and then went about looking at the menu. It is always so exciting looking at a new menu. For anti-pasti we decided to share a little bit....so we had:
- Potato and " Porcini " mushroom flan with " Pecorino di Fossa " cheese cream sauce flavoured with saffron
-Goose breast " Carpaccio " with assorted wild salads, orange, sultanas, nuts and raspberries vinaigrette
-Chicken liver and beef spleen patè on toast with caramelized red onion
I must say, all three were absolutely amazing and I would most definitely order them again. They were beautifully presented, tasted and a nice portion...let me share some pics...

Mains....we all ordered different things...quite a wide variety and definitely was not easy to choose.
-Mutti: Crisp cooked pork thigh at low temperature with assorted parsley mushroom
-Mom: Egg " Tagliatelle " with seasonal fresh local truffle, she chose the white truffels
-Kim: Wild-boar "Dolce e Forte" style (ancient recipe with raisins, cocoa, pine nuts, candied and red vinegar
-Dad: Baked rack of lamb wrapped in bread, aromatic spices and pistacchio nuts
-Me: "Chianina" beef tartare with tomatoes, anchovies, fresh onions, black olives and tuna sauce with boiled egg salad
All the mains looked superb and I must say the ones I tasted (not the lamb) where great. Kim thought his flavour combination was ok, but he would not choose it again, and I have to admit, I do prefer the traditional wine sauce. dad said that he would choose Mutti's next time, his was nothing special. All in all we all agreed that we would go back though and try it again. Let me share some pics...

We also decided to share some desserts.....tiramisu and semi-freddo. The tiramisu was not great...it was their twist and for all of us...not a good twist....but anyway. the semi-freddo was very delicious and that I would definitely order again. It was an almond-brittle semi-freddo. Let me share some pics...

Final verdict...we all would go back...prices very reasonable and great portions, service and food variety and of course food flavours. From me...goodnight...have a good one...and we chat again soon.
