Truffle festival- san Giovanni d'Asso

Another festival....happening the second and third weekend in November in San Giovanni d'Asso....tartufo bianco....i was quite excited.

View from San Giovanni d'Asso

So the first weekend on Sunday we decided to visit....and I was pleasantly surprised....as we arrived we were invited for a cappuccino at the Castle restaurant (they recognised us and said come in for a cappuccino). We received a cappuccino and some jam tart....the cappuccini they need to practice a little bit...the coffee was weak (way too milky) and the foam non existent and the little but that existed disappeared almost immediately....way too airy.....the tart....wow...sooooo sweet....in fact too sweet...but a nice gesture nonetheless. Let me share a pic...

Cappuccino and sweet

After that we started wondering through the village inspecting all the various stands...from wooden children toys to pecorino cheese to antiques to chocolate from Perugia and of course...olive oils....AND tartufo bianco...which by the way sells at €320 per 100g...yes 100g NOT per kg....very expensive...but wow...you could smell them, very distinct. We of course bought some Perugia chocolate.....from the Baci factory...so damn delicious...it was a chocolate log with almond splinters and you could choose how big a piece you wanted. Let me share some pics before I continue...

Now, we cannot come to a tartufo bianco festival and not buy....so Mutti decided to buy some white truffle...no, not in oil...they are all fresh....have a look at what she bought....

After that we walked around a little....there were quite a few places to eat also, but Sofia was exhausted so we decided we had seen it all and rather let her sleep at home...more comfortable. What a nice festival and definitely worth visiting, even if you do not buy white truffles...hahaha.
Now, you might ask...what did we do with the white truffles.....we bought fresh pasta and made an al olio...a few shaved truffles were warmed up with the olive oil....and the rest we were allowed to shave over fresh....and for those that wanted some grating of parmiggiano....was it good....you bet so...are they worth the price...i am not so convinced...it is like oysters for me...they are nice, but the price is not worth it.....let me share a pic of the food.....

Truffle Pasta

So, i am getting hungry for lunch...so off i go and prepare a little bit something to eat. Not sure what though...let's see what tickles my fancy...cheers.
