La Porta- Monticchiello

Beautiful setting...summer day...Sunday lunch....as i have written in a previous blog of mine, the food at La Porta was truely amazing...but that was a tasting menu....this time...we would order a la carte. We decided on a Sunday lunch....out on the terrace. My friend, Michelle, was with us from London...and unfortunately, Kim, was on the ship....

We arrived around 1pm and left around 3:30pm...what does that tell you, in short....we had a great lunch. First order.....a bittle of spumante....brut and white. Starters...we decided to share a taglieri and a steak tartar....let me share some pics....

Taglieri
Steak tartar
The taglieri was phenomenal, beautifully cut, the melon was sweet and tasty, the cheeses great and in fact quite a big platter when it says on the menu for two people, delicious. The steak tartar was unfortunately a let down, although beautifully presented, well cut, it lacked in flavour, it needed a lot of seasoning, it just lacked the umpf, quite sad about that because last time it was fabulous.
Then time for another spumante.....this time a rose and of course some mains, Michelle had the pici al ragu, dad had his famous papardelle cinghiale, Mutti just had a small mixed salad, mom and i shared the octopus with potato puree and the special (ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta with a mascarpone and truffle sauce).....the food....fabulous....we all loved it...we all finished the plates, so i guess that says it all....Sofia's favourite were the pici....time to share some pics...

Although we were all very full, the mere thought of dessert was not happening, we still wanted to have a squizz at the dessert menu...and there was something intriguing....amaretti biscuits (which we all know i love because they taste of marzipan), with espresso and mascarapone...now...that sounded very interesting....so some coffees were ordered and one of those amaretti desserts to share....the coffees came....with delcicious biscuits and the intriguing dessert....
Dessert

The amaretti dessert was out of this world....what a simple idea...yet so bloody effective...it was just yummie...literally hard amaretti biscuits (you get hard and soft), an espresso poured over and then mascarpone on top....sooooooo damn good...i think we were fighting of who gets how many bites...just yummie. Would we go back so this place, absoloutely, yes. We had a fabulous lunch out and we really enjoyed ourselves...even Sofia managed to take her power nap until mains arrived...have a squizz...

So, i say goodnight...hope you are not too hungry after reading this...i am off to bed now....cheers.
