Katakolon

Our last port this week would be Katakolon....and we all know what i love to do there...i love to eat octopus. Also, last time, when the pilot invited us for lunch, when my family was onboard, he unfortunately had no octopus...so this time i was extra excited. Kim and i took a stroll to the pilot's daughter's restaurant and shop called F.ilia. I think i might have said it before, but their shop is really beautiful, not cluttered but spaced out products, one can try everything and the decor is great....have a look at this....

Of course we always try the goodies and we always end up buying something...this time it was two bottels of olive oil and snails...one with garlic, one with rosmary. The olive oil from them is just so nice, while Italian olive oil is a little bit more bitter, this has no bitterness at all, it is very smooth. I love it. After that, time to sit down and enjoy some lunch. It consisted of Greek salad, Sagnaki and grilled octopus. Sagnaki is a cheese which is fried in a small frying pan, the type of cheese varies depending where you go, it might be graviera, kefalograviera, halloumi, kasseri, kefalotyri, or sheep's milk feta cheese, but it is delicious. They served it with a a home-made orange marmalade. All this was accompanied by some local white wine...let me share some pics...

I hope your mouth is watering...cause just looking at the pictures mine starts to water again. Dessert we tried something called Galaktoboureko. It is a Greek dessert made of semolina custard and wrapped in filo. It may be made in a pan, with filo layered on top and underneath and then cut into smaller portions (ours was made that way) or rolled into individual servings. It is served or coated with a clear, sweet syrup. It was yummie....let me share a pic...

The only negative about this little restaurant is that you cannot have cappuccino, they only have espresso and Greek coffee...and Greek coffee i do not like at all.....
Anyway, we had a great lunch out....the afternoon consisted of tanning and in the evening we went to Bistro. I have not been there in so long and both Kim and I felt like some French food. First off we decided we would try one of the French red wines. We were not so sure what we would eat yet, so we decided on a blend, they are much smoother and can be paired much easier with food. Let me share a pic of the wine....
Our wine
For starters i had my usual...the scallops with aubergine puree and pinenuts and Kim had the mussles in a creamy white wine sauce (not to forget we also received some fresh breads with salmon mousse). The starters were great, nothing to complain about at all. For mains, Kim had the fillet with a red wine sauce and i opted for the pork with a creamy sauce and caramalized apples...yes, my usual. It was all so yummie...we loved it....dessert...nothing. In all honesty, there is nothing we love at Bistro for dessert. Yes, i like the cheese platter but then i have to be in the mood for savoury, today i was not. Unfortunately, i only have pics of the main courses...let me share those with you....

So...that is it from me..next week you will hear from me again...this time with Sofia onboard, for now goodnight.
