Milano

A new city.....we arrived late morning and we would spend the day there before departing early morning to the southern part of Switzerland/ northern Italy....the lakes....but back to Milano. Upon arrival we checked into the hotel...allowed Sofia to explore the room a bit and crawl a bit before departing for a well know Pasticceria called Bastianello.... Logo Upon entering the waiters were all dressed in white jackets with bow ties....i felt a little bit out of place with my jeans...but looking around....most people were dressed casual..... Waiters (i found pic on their website) I loved the decor in the place...the little wrought iron chairs....it really looked inviting.... Door handles Seating By now it was 13:00 and we were asked pranzare (lunch) or aperitivo....upon looking around we saw that the aperitivo platter (food) looked quite inviting so we asked for the aperitivo menu. My Aperol Spritz said €11.00....kim's birra said €6.00 or €11.00 (aperitivo). Wow....€5.00 differenc...

Lemon and Ricotta Ravioli

Image
So....time to talk about some home-made food which we have created in our home kitchen....in fact my mom has cooked it twice already and today was the day I was being taught how to make ravioli from scratch and then stuff them..... Yes, we have a pasta machine which I do believe is necessary, we have tried it without and in all honesty one just cannot get the dough thin enough. And yes, we also have the ravioli machine....but neither of them is electronic...all by hand. Let's start with the dough...simple....one egg per 100g flour "00" and one calculates 100g per person....so we had 6 eggs and 600g flour "00". One should do a mountain, with a hole in the middle (like a volcano), add the eggs into the opening and mix the egg with a fork and then slowly mix it all up, kneading the dough until it becomes smooth. Once smooth wrap it in cling film for one hour, room temperature....let me share an illustration: Illustration of making the dough While the dou...

Amordivino- Asciano

You might remember...i have written about this little gem before...but i never managed to show kim the first time....so this time...i wanted to show him.... Sunday evening......before making the reservation i did ask whether they would have the big bistecca made on the fire and the answer was "certo" (for sure). As we arrived, the sight of the bistecca just excited me....have a look....(p.s. The bistecca and fire is every night).... Bistecca Of course...mains was chosen before we even set foot in our gem...starters....we needed the menu. The wine menu was not needed because we rather looked at the shelves and chose what looked nice. The great thing is that prices are displayed, so they are really not trying to trick you which is nice. Have a look at the shelf.... Shelf with red wine display And the most exciting part of the menu.....the antipasti had changed slighly (i cannot talk about the mains because i did not look at them last time...hahaha).....it almost seemed like a...
