More food places....

Yes....some more spots we tried during vacation....and yes...they do deserve to be mentioned....i love Tashas...the first one i ever tried was the one at Atholl square...i was introduced by a friend and fell in love with it...although the menu is very wide...they manage to make it all well...im not a person that loves going out for breakfast because many places are just so cliche in what they serve...however...tashas i love for breakfast....you can go there...and you will DEFINITELY find something whether it be an omlette, traditional breakfast, french toast, oats, muesli in a glass, paw paw with greek yoghurt and nuts......you will find it....today...eggs were what i felt like....the debate was between the poached eggs with black mushrooms on ciabatta or the poached eggs with asparagus spears and hollondaise sauce on health bread.....the second it was....i love it...soft poached so that the yellow just oozes out when you squeeze it...dip the bread in it...amazing...and yes...my order did not let me down...great. Kim chose the breakfast pita which is scrambled eggs with tomato served in a pita...he enjoyed it...so yes...a successful breakfast....which tashas did we go to....we went to the one in melrose arch...but i have tried many....morningside, atholl, nicol way...all good....so yes...if you have not been...please go ahead...try it out....

Second place that i would like to mention is Il Tortelino....it is an Italian place in Oaklands....in a dodgy little shopping centre...in all honesty if I was not told about it...I dont think i would have spotted it....it is a deli combined with restaurant...so when you walk in you see the big fridges with cold meats, fresh pastas and anti pasta to take home...the atmosphere is alfresco....we sat down and immediatly were given 1/3 glass prosecco and home- made bread...3 varieties....with an amouse bouche...i loved that...just a little extra but it means a lot, i believe. Bread tasted divine...oh, almost forgot...we also got some tapenade with the bread...simply divine....

Then we received the menu and got informed about the specials....some things i have to mention...firstly...the special page i did not like....i said "mussels (when available)" (how can you have something as a special BUT saying when available, that is contradictory)....anyway...also didnt like the menu...made of plastic and was not user friendly at all....and the prices...oh my word....i was shocked...what the....so expensive..but really expensive...shocking...i mean a buffalo carprese R120....really....Carpaccio R90.....and so on went the price list......anyway....we we there...now time to order...i ordered the buffalo carprese, my dad the carpaccio and mom the baked figs with gorgonzola....all starters were divine....BUT i think dad's carpaccio was way too little and presentation shocking...i mean....it looks like they are trying to fill up the plate with lemons....trying to justify the price...there definitely should have been more meat...flavours though...great...yes...here are some pics...you can make up your own mind....

Carpaccio with way too many lemon slices
Buffalo carprese (loved the fact that mozzarella was torn)
Baked figs with proscuitto and gorgonzola

Mains...dad went with the ossobucco, i had the butternut ravioli with sage and butter sauce and mom had the artichoke lasagna.....the raviolis were great....the filling was butternut and almonds...so quite sweet, too sweet for my dad and mom...i however enjoyed it....dad enjoyed his ossobucco, i didnt like the presentation and i think ossobucco should be served with mash and not pasta....it looked like a bolognaise....mom thought her lasagna was too rich....i thought it looked like it was dumped on the plate..i enjoyed the taste of it though....In my opinion the flavours were good but the prices not justified at all.....also strange...it advertises that you can have the pasta half portion, so i asked for half portion and the answer i received was...the butetrnut ravioli is a special...on specials you cannot have half portions....hmmmm...strange.....anyway here some pics.....

Time for dessert...i was way too full...but thought i want to try the tiramisu...just to see....the waiter came after 5 minutes and informed me that the tiramisu was done too late and it has not settled yet....hmmmm...i was disappointed....my dad then ordered an espresso...and im not sure what came...it defintely was not an espresso...it looked like filter coffee in an espresso cup...he was not impressed at all....so yes...dessert was unsuccessful...and guess how much an affagato cost (scoop of vanilla ice cream with an espresso)...R50...what the...shocking...anyway....although starters and mains were good...i would not run back there...the prices were far too pricey...for that money i expect perfection....sadly i do not recommend this place....

But anyway...i have blogged twice about food....so i think it is time to move on...and i will...the next blog will be about kim's birthday get away...for now....im off.....(im nightshift at the moment.....so let me go finish some work)....speak soon...cheers
