Mon Petit Throbb

So...what is happening...why am i not blogging like i used to....damn...i actually miss it....but i think i must give myself a push and do some blogging again...just been super busy...starting new ventures back at home, in South Africa that is....being on the ship, which is currently under-manned which means 10hrs a day....and then when i have some time off....kim and i try to go outside or have a nice lunch/ dinner onboard the ship...and yes...i have also changed ships....but one step at a time....

So, although i love to eat at home when im not on the ship...this time it was crucial that we try some new restaurants...my friend Katja invited me to try this new place called Mon Petit Throbb out in Fourways...a bistro restaurant....and when i looked at the menu i thought i was in heaven...the starters were actually something that i would put together, if the restaurant does not have a strict definition of the tYpe of cuisine they cook....so what was there.....carpaccio, springrolls, carprese, snails, pear and walnut salad, mussels....and mains....pasta, pizza, salmon, fillet with basamic reduction, lamb chops, linefish wrapped in phyllo parcel, fillet bordelaise and ossobucco (well these are the ones i remember).....when Katja and i went there we went straight for mains.....and we both ended up having the salmon....beautifully cooked...medium rare....presentation so so....and the bubbly and wine by the glass very good prices...and yes...i do have a pic....

Salmon
What i just loved was the atmosphere....so different....chairs and tables not matching...wine barrels used to store vinegar and olive oil...just so cool....and the entrance done nicely....sadly the pizza oven is a little hidden....also i like that they have a blackboard with specialities...so yes...all in all a very good experience...so i was gonna take my parents and kim there.....
Atmosphere

So....the second time i went there....kim was away...so it was my parents and me...and again..the restaurant did not let us down....this time....my mom had the springrolls, i went for the tri colore (cArprese with avo) and my dad went for the mussels....all very beautifully presented...have a squizz.....

Mains...my dad went for the ossobucco while my mom and i shared the balsamic reduction fillet and the pear and walnut salad....and now i have some comments...sadly the presentation for the mains, like the first time, was lacking....i just find it a little wierd with the veggies in that side dish.....also the fillet was way too big a portion...thank god we went for another starter and a main and went half and half....also....a little sad cause starters are so beautiful.....have a look....

Balsamic fillet with mash

Dont you agree....a little chunky....not as delicate as the starters....hmmmm.....anyway...we were all very full...but then we saw on the special menu....strawberry mille feuille...and guess what...we had to try....it was not your traditional mille feuille....cause the one i know is softish...def not crunchy...this one was very crunchy...but it was a super twist...really amazing......and yes...i will add a picture...

Starwberry Mille Feuille

So yes...at this stage...i still wanted to take kim here also...just to try it...so when kim came back...we went there....and we tried it....between kim and my mom we took two carpaccios....and they were divine...so perfectly presented....but in my opinion, too much balsamic....but good nevertheless.....here is the pic

Carpaccio

Mains.....i tried the salmon again.....for me...the salmon was nice....but i just do not like the presentation....my dad had the lamb and kim and my mom had the duck...and for all of us the presentation this time was even worse....so that was quite sad....just such amazing starters and to mess it up with the mains....i just feel the presentation for the mains is almost thrown onto the plate...not sure....just not the love behind like in the starters.....dont you agree when you look at the pics....

So, yes....ill go back probably...but not in such a rush....hmmmm.....damn...i really like the atmosphere there....next blog...we will be trying Tashas in Melrose and an Italian restaurant in Oakland called il Tortelino...heard that is where the real Italians go for dinner...so yes...of course ill have to give it a try...and then i need to write another blog about coffee and magnums....and about kim's birthday....Barcelona...the new Ship...seeing new places....oh my....im so behind...i think i need a little while to catch up...but i will get there...eventually...hahaha.....so cheers....im hungry now...and i think i need and derserve some foodies.....
