Legends Golf Course

Legends Golf Resort is situated about 3hrs from Jhb....it is famous for the 19th hole....which is the longest par 3 in the world.....you have to go up onto a cliff with a helicopter and from up there you tee-off....so yes....for kim's birthday weekend that is where we were going...leave on friday morning and return by sunday evening...kim and i decided to go with the bike (my parents would take our golf clubs)....we left earlish cause we wanted to take the scenic route...first stop was the Harley shop on Zambezi road in Pretoria....we just wanted to drop some flyers for our new Harley rental business.....after that kim asked for some advise on which roads to travel and off we went.....oh my word....im not gonna go there...the way these people from the Harely shop told us to drive was shocking...bad roads....roadworks...and so slow....we drove until Cullinan and then decided to turn back.....re-routing a few times until we were back on the N4....anyway we did some uneccessary sight seeing....but so what....as if that was not enough....7km before wer reached our destination was sand/ dirt road....yes, if you are in a car no problemo....we are on a bike...hmmmm...problems..and thick sand...its like quicksand...you sink...so kim started to manouvre...trying to hold the bike upright....not easy at all....trying to find the sections were it was dirt rather than sand...and then suddenly we hit a patch and the bike went down.....damn...that thing was heavy to get back up...no, we were not injured...but trust me...we were fuming by the time we got to the Legends Golf Resort...well, lesson learnt...research before you go somewhere with a bike...well, now we know....the bigger question was...now we are inside...we will still have to go out...but you know what...that would only be in 2 days...so let's enjoy....

After checking out the room and finding my parents it was time to go on the helicopter ride and try out the 19th hole, we had booked for today in case it was bad weather or too windy...then we still had sAturday and Sunday.....but today was a beautiful day so we could go....i was so excited....i have been inside a helicopter only once before...so me, i was more excited for the helicopter ride than actuallY tee-ing-off from a high cliff....all four of us went up...we had to put on the earmuff things and off we went...i loved it...feels so cool and the view was just amazing....great fun....

Kim and me...behind you can see the green

We each received 5 balls labelled with the numbers 1,3,5,7,9....first ball and then if out of bound then penalty, thus the next ball that is shot, is number 3.....first one to go was my dad....unfortunately all were out of bound...thus he would have to drop

Dad getting ready for his attempt

Then it was time for my mom...and again...all out of bound...she would also drop....

Mom trying to be in play

Time for kim....oh my word....what the....first ball in play....the spotter found the ball...not on the green but in play amazing.....wow...i was speechless.....so proud.....

Kim...his first ball

And last but not least...me....i also had no ball in play...so yes...i would also be hitting my 11th shot....10 on the fairway....

Me attempting to not be out of boundds....unsuccessful

After that....some pics....then back intot he helicopter to go down and off course to finish our hole....

Me on top of the cliff

so kim had his second shot while the rest of us were going for our 11th shot....no pressure, kim. His second shot....onto the green....crazy....amazing....and all three of us...our 11th shot was also onto the green.....time for kim to have his first putt...going for a par....quite a longish shot....so not too easy....but....he managed...and he had a par.....im so jealous...wow....mom and i ended up having 13 and dad 14...so kim was the definte winner...im so proud....i think it is amazing to have your first shot in play and then also get a par....amazing...and he loved the experience......here a pic...

Kim after getting par

So...although the day started a little chaotic with finding funny routes and having to travel on funny dirt/ sand roads....it ended up quite well....having fun on the helicopter and then attempting to play the longest par 3 in the world....no one has ever managed to get a hole in one...if you get a hole in one....you get one million dollars...the best...2....so yes, i think it was a well worth experience....def a must do if you enjoy golf....have fun...we definitely did....

But of course we cant go to a resort and i only mention the 19th hole...and yes, i do have quite a few things to mention...so next blog will be about the actual resort and weekend...rather than just the 19th hole...damn...still cannot believe that kim actually got 3....well done
