Pomodoro and Frenzi

Hmmmm....which to start....lets start with my definite preference Pomodoro....at the Morningside Shopping Centre.....

http://www.dining-out.co.za/md/Pomodoro-Ristorante/4572

We go there quite often cause Stefano, the owner, has an excellent variety on the menu, fair prices....and it just has a nice atmposphere....the starters always make my life difficult....should i choose ostrich carpaccio, salmon carpaccio, beef carpaccio, caprese with fiore di latte or buffalo mozzarella, parma ham with mozzarella, grilled calamari, steak tartar, vitello di tonnato.....and these are not all the starters....but it makes my life hard....hmmm....mozzarella i knew....but now...fiore di latte or buffalo.....ok...fiore di latte...now...tomato or parma ham.....ok...finally decision made.....my mom wants parama ham with fiore di latte and i will have tomato with fiore di latte.....simple...hahaha.....

Kim had the calamari....mom the parma ham with mozzarella ball, me the tomato with mozzarella ball and dad had the steak tartar....unfortunately i couldnt take a pic of dads tartar...he was too quick destroying his egg yolk, mixing it into the fillet.....the starters were divine.....

Then time to order the mains...hmmm...the specials look good....linguine with parma ham and scallops....half portion thank you.....and you know what...it was great...some extra parmesan (it was olive oil based)....fab....and then we also took a salmon carpaccio and my mom and i shared....kim went for the same pasta (yes...he added tomato sauce.....hmmmm....no comment) and dad had the veal milanese with chips (its a crumbed veal...like a schnitzel)....everyon loved their food...so definitely excellento food....

Desserts didnt happen cause we were all too full...rather some dessert wine at home...ice wine....so...verdict for restaurant...excellento...definitely going back.....

Now to the second restaurant...Frenzi....it is out at Cedar.....

I loved the look....as we walked in, i just thought wow...so cool...so nice....we were seated at a table for 4....one strange thing i noticed...the table behind me was like a long harvest table...those i dont like and i am not sure why it is such a trend.....in the corner they have a large copper pizza oven...looks amazing...just wow....really like the whole decoration in there....

Inside the restaurant

Warehouse look

I like the whole look of the warehouse, shelf thing...so...time to order some drinks....so i ordered the mini prosecco bottle....the others ordered wine by the glass.....the waitress came back to me stating they are out of order....i can have a local glass of bubbly...damn....quite upsetting....was excited for my mini prosecco bottle....the menu looked good....but not too many starters i woud choose....in the end i chose the beef carpaccio....and shared with my mom who ordered the deep fried risotto balls with zucchini fritters....

Carpaccio

Risotto balls with zucchini fritters

Verdict....the beef carpaccio was almost impossible to cut....not sure why cause they use the normal cut...but somehow really struggled to cut it....The risotto balls were quite nice....but quite a heavy starter.....other starters were caprese....which looked nice and another carpaccio....also my dad was not keen on his carpaccio.....time for mains...my mom and i decided to do another half half....cause we spotted the mains and they looked big...fillets a whopping 280g.....so we shared a carprese and a fillet with balsamic reduction and rocket on mash.....my dad tried the a la oli pasta and Juerg tried the fillet with truffle sauce on mash....that cost just below R200....expensive in my opinion....when the food came..man, my mom and i were glad we shared....big...carprese was nice...good portion size and the fillet was divine....but very big.....the a la olio...no comment...it was swimming in olive oil....not nice....and yes...i do have some pics....

Dessert...no space.....so verdict....would i go back...definitely not in a rush...maybe would go again...but not running there.....a pity.....some more starters to choose...and portions a little smaller....also what i love about Pomodoro...you an have half portions.....
