Part one of this cruise....
So.....Rome....so cold....i had gangway duty from 6 until 10am (work started at 5am)...and man it was raining....windy....and no....i did not have a jacket....so u can only imagine how cold i was....when i was off at 10....i had a very hot shower....stood in the shower for long...trying to get some heat back...that was miserable.....but why concentrate on the miserable.....Alessio...a friend who i met on the ship and lives in Rome brought mozzarella for me....so damn....i was in heaven....some good olive oil, coarse salt, salty cracks and mozzarella....wot more could i want.....heat....and hmmmmm.....nuts.....well...those ill buy in Izmir....chocolates....still have....so food wise....and just food wise....nothing else actually...wait maybe some camembert and gruyere....damn....i think im hungry.....let me go and eat now......
So....lets chat a little about my three port days...so..first Katakolon....not a new port....def had enough free time to do something....lunch...def yes....and yes...same spot....same food....so good to be back....barbequed, red wine octopus and a greek salad with fresh crispy bread and olive oil.....man just so good......and then of course....ice cream.....kim with no ice cream....does not exist....so we found an ice cream deli where we ended up with a cone of amarena and stracciatella.....unfortunately no pistaccio....what is wrong with these people....damn....and then i thought we still had plenty time...after all i only start my shift at 16:30....until kim matter of factly reminded me....we are sailing at 1600.... All crew on board by 1500.... Oops....it was 14:55....i dont know in what lala land i was....oh well....that just meant some gym before work....that worked out quite well actually.....
Tonight.....we decided we would go to Papas because the menu at the Italian restaurant has changed....so of course....have to go and try it......i must say.....i was impressed....we got 4 different olive oils and three varieties of bread.....garlic oil, chillie oil, plain and pesto oil.....white crispy bread, bread sticks and a thick gooey bread with onions and tomato on top.....so far so good....i also had a glass of prosecco cause we celebrated something....but cant share cause not all 100% yet...ill share soon enough..... Hmmm.....remind me...no...i dont think ill need a reminder...back to the food, starters....and no....i did not go for carprese....why....cause i still have mozzarella from Alessio...so thought id have something different.....i might regret it later.....carpaccio for me.....kim ended up having a minestrone soup and bruscetta....all good....excellento actually...except bruscetta little let down...so next time....no to bruscetta.....mains.....i had risotto with jumbo shrimps and kim had ossobucco....both great....ossobucco was falling off the bone.....i know someone else that loves ossobucco...yes dad....you....and he would love it..so when he comes on the ship the next time...ill make him have it......dessert....i heard tiramisu has improved....so that was the obvious choice for me...and yes...it was very good....and yes....dad....you would approve....kim had the dense choc tarte with vanilla sauce....the vanilla sauce you had to search for, so some extra vanilla ice cream was ordered.....then again....that was almost a given...like i said, kim with no ice cream....no go.....so verdict...excellent and worth going to......
Today athens....wow....6hrs....def time to go out...some chilling time with myself.....off i went around 10.... Started work ealy....hence already off at 10...and walked to metro and got to athens....took the main shopping stop....wow...never been to athens on a saturday and man....it was so vibey....the stores had loud music playing and streets were full.....i walked around....discovering new places and i just loved it..then of course....cappuccino time...forgot to mention lots of foam..so it was a little milky....and way way too little foam...little disappointed.....i mean.....greeks are supposed, in my mind, know how to do it.... Man the ones in mykonos were excellento....hmmmmm....maybe better luck next time....then strolling the streets again...found the typical bread type vendors...and couldnt help myself to try one....with seeds....yummy......here is a pic
And then...i discovered a greek pastry bakery....full full full of people....so wot do i do...i of course have to go see what they have and ended up buying baklava and a nut tarte....smelt so fresh....i would keep it until the ship just to share a little....thought i would be a little generous....back at the ship.....eating it....so good....preferred the baklava...altough way sweet, but that was a given...the nut tarte was too crispy....it was almost like a sugar biscuit....so a little dissapointed....oh well....baklava made up for it....hmmmm....tomorrow would be Izmir....more food....wow...and i know what i will have so even more excited....but before....here are two more pics from Athens....
Like promised....more food talking...but before lunch...time to buy some nuts....and i can say...im embarassed to say....we bought a kg of nuts and within 4 days they were all gone....what the hell....but im not fully to blame.....just mostly.....then time for turkish pizza and salad....man....so good....but i have to say....we had the normal one and one with cheese...cheese one is better...and the pizza was better than in Alanya...cause it was not cooked in lamb fat...which we all know i dont like...lamb....so not me....AT ALL.....not because its lamb....its the taste....then of course time for coffee....i said to kim i wanna take him to this place where they serve you a bowl of chocs with your coffee.....and as we walked there...he said that he knew exactly where we were going cause he also used to go there a lot...hmmm....funny coincidence....and yes....a bowl of coffee bean chocs and turkish delight covered in chocs and pure black choc spoons we got....divine....i def dont go there for the foam...but sometimes it is a hard choice....thick foam or chocs....today the chocs won.....good day out....and yes...sunday in izmir is doable cause there is not much shopping...just food and restaurants are always open...before ship....quick stop and supermarket for some cheese....and this time we found the cheese again that we once found at the bazaar that is so amazing...im gonna write the name...its bergama...i write it so that next time if i forget...ill just find this blog again...haha....love it...and not to forget....kim needed ice cream...of course....new magnum....was like a choc brownie, truffle inside...actually amazing....
work was work....not much happening....getting used to new supervisor....so far she seems better than the last one...then again...thats not very difficult cause last one was horror....now im gonna let u go...im sure you have some things to do....well i do....next blog will be about me going to see the pyramids....yes...my schedule allows it....you have no idea how excited i am...the pyramids....ive always wanted to go and see them....now finally....im curious cause some of my work people that have seen them thought the pyramids and the sphinx were a let down.....but i still wanna see and make up my on mind....okey.....sea day tomorrow..then the pyramids....cheerio.....
