Random rest

As promised....the last blog on Franschhoek is....random rest...and it is good stuff...otherwise...guess what...i would not be writing about it...i guess one can say...i would not be wasting your time.....so where to start....friday lunch after arrival at Cape Town airport we drove to the Vrede en Lust wine estate, we wanted to eat lunch at Lust deli....and as always...it did not disappoint...we sat outside, it was extremly hot...but cannot complain....we sipped some wine...i had a pinot grigio and kim had the riesling...mutti also opted for the pinot grigio.....to eat....we shared a charcuterie platter and a cheese platter....and they were very delicious...beautifully presented and came with a variety of three breads, crispy fresh white baguette, whole weat bread and crispy rye bread....man....so damn good.....i forgot to take the pic in the beginning...so i need to share the pic of the left overs...sorry.....

Cheese and charcuterie platters

To end off lunch...kim opted for the Irish coffee....but the glass in which it was served in was way too big....so unfortunately that wAs not so good.....here is a pic of the Irish coffee....

Friday night Mutti, Kim and I went to the French connection Bistro....i have been there before and i have never been disappointed, hence we thought we would go there...and also this time...it did not disappoint...we shared a bottle of bubbly and starter we shared fresh mussles with a creamy, garlic sauce...wow...very very good...and a very generous portion...we were pleasantly surprised.....and sorry...no pic....but i do have pics of our main courses.....mutti opted for the duck with a berry reduction.....she loved it.....i opted for the fillet mignon with a mushroom sauce.....i loved it (i ordered medium rare and it came medium but it was so soft that i decided not to complain), kim went for the lamb shoulder with a red wine reduction....he loved it....so i guess i can say that the main courses as well as the starters were a success.....

Dessert....two times apple tarte tatin...pastry was shocklingly bad...honestly way too thick and soggy....but the apples on top were delicious....in my opinion way too thick...but beacuse they tasted so sweet and were so soft it was nice...but a real tarte tatin should have a very thin pastry and very very caramelized apples (which theses were not). Also the ice cream...they could have been a bit more generous, cause it is a very sweet dessert so you need the ice cream to balance the sweetness....here is a pic of the dessert....oh before that....kim also had an Irish coffee.....and this time it was the right size, however, the top was not cream but rather foam...like the one they put on cappuccino....also not correct....so that was a disappointment.....

Yes....you might have noticed....this blog is a little bit about food....well...guess what....there is some more food stuff coming....next up....the dinner after our time at the bubbly festival....the elephant and barrel pub....yes....a pub...and man...it was so damn noisy there...and guess what...little Sofia could not have cared...she came inside with us...awake and cheerful...and fell asleep...even with all the noise and live band....amazing....dinner was actually surprisingly very good, we all expected oily/ greasy pub food and it was actually very good....calamari, greek salad, pizza, burgers, nachos...everyone was very happy with their meals....and i would definitely go back there.....the salad was crispy and fresh, the pizza extremely thin, the beef burger home made, the nacho guacamole delicious and so were the actual nachos...and calamari looked good.....let me share some pics....

Well....there is one more foodies.....and then ill chat a little bit about our guest house. Last foodies...on monday before leaving Cape Town we decided to have a lunch at the waterfront at the san marco restaurant, we have been there before and we were never disappointed, so we thought why not go there, enjoy some good food and some sunshine outside. We were also meeting my friend Nicole there....a last good-bye before leaving south africa. The lunch menu looked amazing...and oh my word...the food was soooo damn good....kim thought his was ok...but then again...sometimes he does not order the best....hahaha.....i had the prawn, paw paw and avocado salad, it was delicious...and a perfect size....sorry...no pic...and trust me...i am very upset with myself for not taking one. So would i go back there....yes, i definitely would....i will actually copy this salad idea...cause really delicious.
Now about the guest house...we decided to stay at La Fontein, a guest house in the heart of Franschhoek, very convenient location, we are able to walk wherever we want. The rooms are beautiful, nice size, breakfast is great, can sit outside in the garden while enjoying your cup of coffee....the problem we had this time was the fact that before arrival, they started making a fuss about the baby, asking whether she is quiet etc etc...kim and i started getting rather upset how the situation was handled....in fact if there would have been space at another guest house i would have switched....i mean i have no problem if a guest house does not want babies, but then say it and we book otherwise, dont accept us then....long story short...in the end they even had a camping cot, a baby chair and a baby bath....so what the hell...anyway moving on....the location is great, rooms beautiful, great breakfast, i just do not like the owner and manager.....
Now before ending this blog...i will share a last few pics from the guest house and Sofia....then it is cheers from me...and you will hear from me soon....cheers.....
