Boschendal wine estate.....The Werf Restaurant
Now this restaurant deserves an individual blog...dedicated just to the foodies there....a friend of mine had gone to this restaurant and highly recommended it, so i actually made a Sunday lunch booking on the terrace....
The wine estate is beautiful and glamours, really nice tree avenue....just a wow factor when you entered. Once parked we passed the tasting place, then the deli restaurant before entering the Werf restaurant.
I must say...i am so glad we were on the terrace on such a beautiful day...over looking the vegetable garden, what a stunning setting, inaide in the enclosed glass patio would have been my second choice...totally inside...last option, hahaha. Of course we ordered some wine, the rose bubbly for the ladies and the men opted for the Rose Blanc de Noir.....delicious....refreshing...perfect for the hot weather....before i start with the food...here is a pic of the landscape
First up was a "complement of the chef", some various coloured baby carrots with hummous and nuts....very nice...and beautifully presented on a wooden board, of course i have a pic....
Next up was pur oder for the starters.....we would share the slow cooked lamb ribs, the mix of mushrooms and the smoked salmon with a celeriac ice cream.....once ordered we received a beautiful freshly baked bread basket....with some butter, beef pate and broad bean & parmesan puree.....the bread was yummie...ranging from white baquette to crispy farmer's bread to whole wheat bread and savoury doughnuts. Let me share a pic of the bread basket...
Starters were excellent, the spund of them on the menu was what they were like, no disappointment at all. I cannot rate thelamb because of course i do not eat lamb, but those that do like lamb raved about it....and mixed mushrooms with a creamy sauce were my favourite...although the salmon was also very good....the ice cream was a little strange, i thought it was a too cold contrast with the smoked salmon, the tastehowever was very yummie....i guess you would like to see a pic....so time to share....
For mains....we opted to go with the specials....which were various "boards" to share....there was a roast chicken for two, sirloin for two and a whole trout with a salt crust for two....we opted for the tryout and the sirloin....and ordered a "caprese with a twist" and a side order of roasted potatoes.....and wow....it was simply delicious...the sirloin...the trout...the potatoes...and the caprese with a twist. The caprese had some blached whole tomatoes, some various coloured fresh baby tomoatoes, some tomato jelly, buffallo mozzarella foam and ricotta balls....very interesting...but very yummie....what we ordered was the perfect size for all of us...we could not have managed more...but of course we still had room for dessert....hahaha. Yes, i do have pics...and yes, i will share them with you now....
So, as you can see....the food was beautifully presented and also just tasted fabulous, trust was cooked to perfection (medium rare), potatoes crispy, caprese- crispy and fresh and sirloin juicy....fabulous....definitely recommend everyone to give this restaurant a shot. Dessert we chose the cheese platter and the fresh berries....we shared both....and both were yummie....well presented...let me show you....
We ended up having a 3.5 hour lunch cause we just took it easy...only ordering mains once we had finished starters and of course only ordering dessert after we had finished mains....it was a damn good meal, great views and splendid company....thank you for a last fabulous Sunday lunch in South Africa.
So....next up will be my random blog on Franschhoek....not to be missed.....some very nice lunch and dinner place that are worth a visit.....but for now.....cheers....we chat soon.
