Cozumel, Mexico

So...this time...i am actually doing a cruise which i have never done before...actually i am going to see places which i have never seen before...so yes...i am quite excited...main thing of course to join my husband for his birthday....which is today in Cozumel....Mexico (for those of you who might not know)....it is an island...well let me share a pic...easier to explain.....

Where is Cozumel
The plan was pretty staight forward....we go out...wonder around a little....check out the many souvenir shops...have something to eat and of course try the margarita cocktail....but before that of course....it was present opening and cake on the bridge...kim's favourite banana cream pie with marzipan....and man..it was so delicious that i actually ended up taking a second helping and then we took one slice for later (yes, a little greedy but when would i get this cake again.....hahaha). Unfortunately i did not have my camera with me, so i did not manage to take a pic...which i know is very sad of me....
After cake we exited the ship and made our way into Cozumel. It was hot and humid......exactly what you can expect from the Carribean. There were a lot of souvenir shops...selling t-shirts.....dresses....bracelets, tequila, hair braiding...etc....even some Mexican Christmas decoration...which i did buy...kim also bought me a beautiful dress...which i ended up wearing in the evening for our dinner.....
Exploring souvenir shops was exhausting, so a small lunch and a maragrita were in order (i say small cause the cake filled us up)...the margaritas we ordered.....wow....huge...and they meant rather well with the amount of tequila they gave...but it was nice and refreshing...with that an octopus ceviche (of course very traditional, the ceviche that is) and some nacho chips with various salsas......one hotter that the other (the only one that was not hot was the tomato and onion salsa)....let me share some pics....
Margarita with nacho chips and various salsas
Let me explain the salsas.....top left the tomato and onion with cilatro, top right fresh habenero chili with onion, bottom left pickled jalepenos, bottom right chili sauce, the top right killed me, the bowl of chips and salsas were refilled upon consumption.....yummie.
Octopus ceviche
The octopus ceviche was so delicious, really really yummie....for those of you who do not know what ceviche is...here is a small explanation....

Ceviche is a seafood dish popular in the coastal regions of Latin America. The dish is typically made from fresh raw fish cured in citrus juices, such as lemon or lime, and spiced with ají or chili peppers. Additional seasonings, such as chopped onions, salt, and cilantro, may also be added. Ceviche is usually accompanied by side dishes that complement its flavors, such as sweet potato, lettuce, corn, avocado or plantain. The greatest variety of ceviches are found in Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador; but other distinctly unique styles can also be found in coastal Honduras, El Salvador, Belize, Guatemala, the United States, Mexico, Panama, the Caribbean, and several other nations....but all that said....or what it all boils down to...it was damn good...and yes, i would definitely order it again....

After that another stroll...we discovered a coffee roastery...of course we went inside...and yes, tried the espresso...very strong...wow...but excellent coffee beans, yes, we did end up buying a bag.....we met the owner who also recommended we try the peanut butter coffee...rather sweet but a firm favourite...he offered us a free sample...and wow...totally up my alley...but then again...i love nuts and i definitely love peanut butter...so with me...one cannot go wrong with the peanut butter coffee.....

Last but not least...time for cigar...and for me another margarita and for kim a corona....this time in a very casual spot...a bar on the side of the street...but it just felt like it had a vibe and kim could enjoying his cigar in peace....i must say, i definitely prefered the margarita here, much sweeter and not as strong....funny way of serving it...polystyrene cup....but like i said...i did prefer it to the first place....

Then it was time to go back on the ship and for us to leave Cozumel....we had a great day out and this was not the last time i have visited this place....
The evening was spent in the private restaurant with a few officers....we enjoyed some asian food..including vegetarian spring rolls, crispy beef, fried calamari, peanut chicken, lemon shrimps etc etc....dessert....of course another cake (given it was kim's birthday). This time it was chocolate and cream cake...but guess what...there was marzipan....amazing...and i must say...i loved it...very sweet but very good...kim prefered the banana cake...i prefered the choc cake....what a nice day...and i am so glad i was able to join my husband on his birthday cruise.....
