Orient

As promised....Orient up for review...or should I rather say...my opinion....it was Mutti's birthday on the 3rd July and her wish was to go to a nice Asian place...so why not go to Orient...there is something for everyone...from Sushi to sizzling dishes to spring-rolls to Satay sticks etc.....

Orient is situated at Melrose Arch, it has been there from the beginning and also that night it looked busy. What I like about the layout is the various levels and sections. All the sections are quite small and it does not feel like you are a part of a HUGE restaurant, it almost seems cosy. we ordered some sparkling water and then looked at the wine list and the food menu. Then we waited....and waited....and waited....the waiter just did not come back to get the wine order, in fact I was a little bit irritaed of how long it was taking him. When he FINALLY came back we decided to give him the wine order and the food order at the same time.

For starters Mutti ordered the vegetable spring rolls, Mutti loves her spring rolls so that was an obvious choice for her. dad went with the spicy prawn soup, mom decided on the chicken satay with the peanut butter sauce and Kim and I decided to share the duck spring rolls and the Miso soup. The starters were delicious, everyone was very happy with their choices.....i think it is time I shared some pics.....

Spring rolls

Mains Kim, mom and I decided to share some sushi.....we had some rolls and lots of sashimi...that is all our favourites....I must say the sushi was very nice, it was a little small but delicious, thank god, Mutti's and dad's meals were a little on the big size and they decided to share a little with us. Mutti had ordered the king prawns with three different dipping sauces and dad ordered the Ossobucco with an Asian twist (my recommendation), they both loved their meals, I must say both portions were very generous.

Dessert time.....well we might as well look at the menu and see if there is anything that would tickle our taste buds....dad and Mutti both opted for some sorbet. Mutti just lemon sorbet and dad wanted some lemon and strawberry sorbet. Kim decided to try the chocolate sesame balls, Chinese style profiteroles filled with dark chocolate, coated in sesame seeds and deep fried, accompanied with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Dad and Mutti got their sorbet rather fast....and Kim....well his dessert somehow did not come, then we asked the waiter whether he forgot Kim's dessert and he stated NO, it was coming soon.....well in my opinion the kitchen should definitely be able to co-ordinate sorbet with another dessert....when Kim's dessert finally arrived it looked so amazing, there was smoke coming off it and it really made us oogle and wow.....the taste, well that was disappointing, there were two balls, one was filled with choc, the other one was empty, so it was just a type of tasteless paste, oooops....not sure what exactly it was supposed to taste of....but we definitely would NOT order it again....

Choc Sesame Balls

Now to the verdict.....I would give it a 4/5, the food was very nice, the atmosphere is great, the service though was not very good, lacking attention to the customer. yes, I would go back and yes, I would recommend it, but like Mastantonio, it is not a cheap place, but worth spending the money.....so from me...cheers....as mentioned before, the next few blogs will be a little bit about foodies again...next one will be a little about coffee and cake....hope your mouth is watering now a little......okey dokey...chat soon.....
