Helsinki

So....as promised...this blog will be about Helsinki.....yes, I have been there before but I still enjoy going there....even just to take a stroll and of course eat the muikku.....now....our day starter off with a visit to Kim's Godmother who lives just outside Helsinki....whenever we come she always makes some snack lunch....she makes these delicious little breads topped with boiled eggs and anchovies....yummie....and then she also had some quiche and various sweets....my favourite sweet was the dammsugare...which literally translated means vaccum cleaner....but they are made from marzipan.....let me share a pic....

After the visit we headed into Helsinki...tummies full so we just took a stroll....of course the view of the Gothic church and the helsinki cathedral are always impressive....and i always like just to look at them....

Also....without eating the muikku...a visit to Helsinki is not complete....so what is it...In english it is called coregonus albula....they are little fishes which Are rolled in rye flour and then deep fried...then we had some garlic mayonnaise with them....man they are so good....really worth eating if you are there...actually i would say definitely eat them...we always eat them right at the sea side where the market is....the best place....i actually dont even know if you could have them in a restaurant...but that is NOT the way to do...best market by the sea front in the middle of Helsinki.....and of course i will share a pic with you....

On the way back from Helsinki I wanted to stop at the moomin shop which is in a small shopping centre outside Helsinki....moomin is the famous finnish character.....i wanted to buy a first outfit for our baby girl which will be arriving in July......and yes, we found a really cute outfit....which I am not sharing a picture of just yet.....

Then it was time for a coffee at the famous chocolate place which also has a side coffee shop called Fazer....the cappuccino was ok....nothing excellent but nothing bad...maybe a little milky but i survived and at least they could do decaf. The best part, you got a chocolate from Fazer with it...and you could choose which flavour choc....that was so nice.....

As you can see...nice foam...just a little bit too milky.....so we had a good outing to Helsinki and tonight we are invited to go to a friend of Kim's.....so from me...cheers from Finland...next blog will be from Italy.....we are leaving tomorrow afternoon from Finland to Zurich, sleep one night at the airport hotel cause our flight to Florence is very early on Friday morning.....so cheers.....
