Chianti
We arrived in Chianti late afternoon after leaving San Marino around 10, the main reason of course because we did not take a direct road to Greve in Chianti but rather some sightseeing roads. We had a good lunch on the way, took us some time to find a ristorante which wAs open on a Sunday and unfortunately no pizza.....so many places we asked said, no pizza for lunch.....hmmmmm.....we settled for pasta....we also stopped at a market for some wild boar salami, some peccorino cheese And other goodies, of course there was also a stop for ice cream and this time we found a gelateria....and we found amarena and pistaccio.....it was damn good.....So when we arrived at our beautiful place, terre di baccio we decided to have our food for the evening alfresco at home, Kim had also found a Chianti wine, so we were sorted.....divine....what a chilled evening......
The next day Kim planned an entire route for us around Chianti....first past Lamole then to Volpaia, the scenery was absoloutely beautiful, just so wow.....volpaia was a tiny very old village, Kim did some wine tasting and ended up buying a 1.5L Chianti from Volpaia.....let me share some pics of the scenery and Volpaia....
Then our route took us through Radda in Chianti, where we decided to stop on the way back....next up was castello Brolio, where again we had quite a steep walk from the village up to the castello whre we paid an entrance fee and went to see the gardens, unfortunately Monday the inside of the castello was closed. Its quite amazing, this castello has been in the same family since the 11th century, and still is. We walked around and afterwards the ticket price included tasting wines from the castello region...which of course we did and Kim got two tasters.....as i could not have mine
Then it was time for lunch, so we thought we drive to Gaiole in Chianti through San Martino and Rietine...beautiful little areas to see and today we definitely wanted pizza fror lunch and we were hoping that we would find a place that would serve us pizza for lunch.....we reached Gaiolo in Chianti around 13:30 and found a ristorante....check this sign.....
So within a few minutes we ordered our pizza with funghi e proscuitto cotto.....after about 30min i started getting itchy. It took them 45min to bring us the pizza and man, it was NOT worth it at all, it was so terrible, i was shocked and actually i was quite upset, it annoyed me so much.....but i let it go and somehow got over it, but definitely one of the worst pizzas I have had in a long time, so definitely do not go there.....The name is i galletto briaco.....
After lunch, we decided to make a stop at Radda in Chianti, but unfortunately, eventhough it was 15:30, the shops were closed, i guess still lunch break so we just strolled though and said on the way to Siena one day we would stop there, cause the shops looked quite cute. After that, time to head back and enjoy the sun and pool a little, after all it was over 30 degrees. The evening we spent in our beautiful backyard with some cheese, wine and bread, divine......so from me, cheers...tomorrow the plan is going to Florence to check out some of the sights there......
