Last week before Europe
The last week before going to Europe seemed to just fly by.....it started with kim's birthday...he wanted a traditional SA braai at my parent's house...and that is what we did....from potato salad to pasta salad to lamb chops to boerewors.....and kebabs....and dessert....the good old favourite...Magnum ice-cream...and yes....not to forget SA wine and bubbly....what a fun night....it lasted long into the early morning....but truely special...and yes..i can share some pics...
I must say they were nice...especially the bacon and avo....but also the one with salami....then again...i am asalami fan on pizza...and yes...the last one i did not try cause it has lamb on it...but kim and dad loved it....so i guess....pizza definitely approved...with some fresh chillies and chopped garlic...and plenty coarse salt....yummie...man...writing this my stomach is starting to growl....i want pizza now....and i mean not today....i mean now...damn....i should stop writing about food when im hungry...definitely makes the situation worse and definitely not easier....hmmm....and guess what...while im writing this i am night shift once again....so yes...no chance for pizza....and i still have two hrs before my shift ends....hmmmmm....ok...back to the last week of SA.....
The last highlight i wanna share with you is while looking for a potential chef for our italian restaurant....we asked one of the chef's to cook us a three course meal and we would not tell her what to cook....all her imagination...no interference....and.....she passed with flying colors and is now our chef....should i share what she made for us....starter....home made gnocci with tomato sauce. Im normally not a gnocci fan at all, i find them heavy and sticky....these...divine...and my dad loved them....and again, he is like me, not a gnocci fan at all.....so off to a good start.....let me share the pic....
So she made the gnocci, then fried them and the sauce had pieces of onion and fresh mozzarella...heavenly....mains...seared tuna with a type of minestrone sauce...again...perfectly cooked...only criticism is that it was too big...portion should definitely have been smaller....but taste...fabulous....and i think presentation a little bit more delicate....what do you think?
Dessert....vanilla panacotta served on pineapple carpaccio with a hint of chillie....i loved the presentation...and the panacotta was fab...and that, in my opinion, is not easy to get right....light, smooth...and the flavour combination...wow.....
Damn...didnt i just say that i should stop talking about food...damn....my hunger is really not going away...ok...enough now....i need to get a cookie from the diner here on the ship.....ohhhh...so good...maccademia cookie....yes...nuts...delicious...one of those really big American cookies...ok...im gonna enjoy my cookie now....and hope you got a little hungry and jealous looking at my food pics....and yes...soon you will be able to come to our Italian restaurant....i hope.....for now though....cheers from me....
