Encore Mauritius

As promised in my last blog...let me mention the a la carte dinner....consisting of 5 courses....but before dinner of course there was also an aperitifo buffet where they had small bites from lobster wraps to prawn and cream cheese crackers....delicious....Kim and I went to the a la carte retsaurant twice....once with everyone (mom, dad and Mutti) and one night just the two of us......both nights food was fab...

First course was an amuse bouche, both times it was a soup, once a tomato cream soup and once a seafood soup....for me, it was too hot for soup and in my opinion an amuse bouche is a taster, something small and the soup was quite big....next was the starter.....there was a choice of three, Kim decided to go for the Chinese seafood soup while I had the lobster tagliatelle (the second time we both had the smoked salmon roulade), it was delicious, but a huge portion.....mains, again a choice of three. I ended up having the grilled fish and Kim the duck....perfectly cooked, the fish even came on a bamboo stick which I thought was a nice touch. By now, I could have said thank you, I am stuffed and full, but it was two more courses to go, first up a choice of a cheese plate or a warm brie wrapped phyllo (we had one of each), Kim didn't really enjoy his brie wrapped in phyllo, so I ended up having both cheese desserts cause we all know how much i LOVE cheese....last course dessert, choice of ice-cream, berry tart or tiramisu...the men went for ice-cream while all three ladies had the berry tart, that was a little bit of a let down cause I expected something with puff pastry or short crust pastry and then with berries on top, but what came was more like a berry sponge cake and for me that is not a tart.....

The second time Kim and I went we had gotten a little bit more clever in the fact that we had the amuse bouche, the starter, mains and then I opted for the cheese plate and Kim the ice-cream (so we both skipped one course) and the waiters were clever in understanding that the cheese and the ice-cream should in fact come at the same time...hahaha....

I think I have chatted enough about food, so let me mention some of the activities we did while we were at the Club Med. As mentioned in my last blog one day we took a taxi to Port Louis which was not worth, another day we actually tried out archery, that was a lot of fun, they even had an instructor who would show you how it is done and I must say I actually enjoyed it, and I managed to hit the target, maybe not quite the bulls eye, but at least the target...

There was also swimming with dolphins which we thought would be beautiful, I have wanted to swim with dolphins for so long and I thought this would be a nice time to do it....well, what a disappointment....we were driving by car to a lagoon where we boarded a small motor boat, off we drove to another lagoon where it is know that the dolphins are swimming...I am not exaggerating when I say there were another like 50 small motor boat....the way it worked was, when you spotted the dolphins near you, you had to QUICKLY jump of the boat and dive under and hope with all might you spot the  dolphins....well let's just say I saw the dolphins when I was sitting on the motor boat, but there was no chance at all to actually see them once you had to jump off the boat....for me, it was way too commercialised and it was a real disappointment...definitely NOT something I recommend...although what I must say I am glad I did it, to realise it was bad cause otherwise I would have wondered the whole week about how amazing it could have been.....let me share some pics though

Lastly, we tried the small KAT (dad, Kim and me), that was quite an adventure given that both dad and Kim how to sail...and they are both known to have opinions and both are used to be the ones in charge, well Kim on a much bigger scale....he is the captain of a cruise ship while dad was in charge when the family went sailing, so yes, that was quite an adventure......let me share some pics...
