Switzerland

Yes...you reading correctly....unfortunately my gandfather (my dads dad) has passed away and i decided to take an emergency break for one week....leave Saturday in Venice and return the following Saturday to Venice.....i worked in the morning and then Kim and I made the most of our day cause my flight was only at 20:00....so yes.....first off was the famous ice cream sandwich...but we were disappointed...somehow we remember it being better....and after that...of course our famous pippa place....and we wanted to try a new one...but kim ally wanted to the one with the egg in the middle again...so ham, salami, mushrooms and egg it was...and amazing it was....of course...another ice cream....we tried this Vexicana and amarena....but def wouldnt have the Vexicana again...it was with some dried fruits and you normally put into christmas cakes and i didnt find it so wow....ice cream was cream flavoured and i thought nothing special at all....the amarena...however....was amzing cause there were lots of cherry chunks....and some even whole ones...brilliant...just so divine....after that i flew to switzerland and the next few days i spent with my dad organising things for the funeral.....we went to Basel and Zurich getting things organised and i think it was good that i went....more efficient....and of course i have to tell you about some amazing food experiences.....it started with kim and my venture in venice....the continued at the airport where i had some fresh mozzarella and the wine bar and some great prosecco.....all by myself....just enjoying...and nope...i for once do not have a pic.....and when i arrived in Zurich...my dad and i just missed the train....so never mind...peanuts and bubbly at the Radisson.....

But here are some food highlights of my week.....well definitely the Bratwurst with onion gravy....man soso good....Bratwurst

So...here are some interesting points.... a brat in English, is a sausage usually composed of veal, pork or beef. The name is derived from Old High German Brätwurst, from brät-, which is finely chopped meat and Wurst, or sausage. Though the brat in bratwurst described the way the sausages are made, nowadays Germans associate it with the German verb “braten”, which means to pan fry or roast. Bratwurst is usually grilled or pan fried.....the German Bratwurst and Swiss Bratwurst are DEF NOT the same....the Swiss one has much less fat....and the absoloute best is St Galler Bratwurst....and that is the one that i also always take home to South Africa....amazing....And when i go to Switzerland at least once i have to have....my preferences is a grilled one that is black from the grill...second best pan fried with onion gravy...but nothing beats one blackened from the grill with a crispy dark bread....yummie....and you know what....i managed to have Bratwurst twice....yay.....

Bratwurst and onion gravy

Another highlight.....my Mutti made turnips....i love them so much..With her creamy sauce...and one night....just a cheese and cold meat evening...gruyere and caprice de dieux...and i am so happy...man...heaven...and of course.....buurebrot (crispy bread...literally translated...farmers bread)....oh man...im getting damn hungry....and guess what....im buying cervelat...gruyere and caprice de dieux for ship....not bratwurst (cause needs to be cooked...but cervelat does not)....

Yes...so i do have some things i like...and then of course choc...i always bring choc...lindt.....the white...black...and red lindt....bar or balls...the marzipan choc from Coop....and marzipan balls from Lindt....just so damn good...and Spruengli truffels....so one day in Zurich my dad and i went to the Spruengli cafe and had coffee and truffle cake...very very good...but def need to share cause it is sweet...and dense...and otherwise too much.....but very excellento....

Spruengli coffee and truffle cake

The coffee....was ok...not that great...def would not run back for coffee...we had cappuccino once in Basel at a bakery called Bachmann...and there cappuccino was shocking...damn...i was so disappointed....def not going back there...and also the strawberry tartlet was not good....so no....not again...my dads favourite place is the Broetlibar....and there...the cappuccino was good...not like in South Africa....but good.....so all in all i didnt find an amazing cappuccino in Switzerland....sadly...maybe next time.....

And now...i just need to also tell you about my favourite chocs...definitely the lindt balls (black, white, brown, champagne and caramel and of course the marzipan ones....as well as Lindt choc bars...and no they do not taste the same in other countries cause Switzerland is very strict with the % cacao.....even lindt that you buy in other countries does DEF NOT taste the same....yes...i am fussy....and the other choc i love...marzipan bar from Coop...i know i mentioned them above...but now im gonna add some pics also....

And last but not laeast....i managed to see both my grannies....Mutti and Oma.....so here a pic with them....
