Bush: Madikwe- Buffalo Ridge

So....as promised....im gonna write about the bush.....Kim arrived on Saturday, we had an amazing brunch....he brought goods from Finland which i have never tried before....best surprise....cheese that looks similar to Haloumi and can be eaten cold, warm, with jam or without....my best...warm with tons of salt....yes...i love salt and there has actually been a study now that says that salt is good for you....hahaha....Sunday played some golf....not the best round...AGAIN.....but hopefully it will come again...but some decent shots...so i will go back......Monday time for the bush....

Took a slow drive up....past Haartebeesport damn....through Rustenburg and a quick stop at Zeerust....guess for what.....ice cream....choc magnum....then arrived at Madikwe just after 1....received a 5 star welcome....bags carried...welcome cocktails and cleaning towels...and lunch would be served at 2.....wow... the room.....fab....i just love that the entire front of the hut is glass so you can see and feel as if you are right in the bush....and awaiting us was a bottle of sparkling wine and a snack platter....how amazing....here are some pics....

Food through-out the days we stayed at Buffalo Ridge was great....my highlights included the quiche (first lunch), the springbok carpaccio (first dinner) and the choc ice cream swiss role dessert (first dinner dessert)....here is a pic of the springbok carpaccio...really fab.....

The bush experience.....kim was so lucky...the first drive EVER for Kim....we managed to see a close-up bull elephant (tick for 1 of 5 Big Five), rhino taking a mud bath (tick for 2 of 5), a lone ranger buffalo (tick 3 of 5), 2 sleeping cheethas (amazing to see but honestly a little boring cause they did not do anything) and 6 young lions (tick 4 of 5)......wow......how lucky is that....here some pics....

What was do nice was that during the next few drives we managed to see a herd of elephants with a baby one...so cute as well as a herd of buffalo...about 50 of them....so he really saw the big 5 (except the leopard) really amazing...highlight for me....a pride of lions...2 grown females with three cups each, so a total of 6, eating a kudu...we went twice there and both times we saw different scenarios....so amazing....you heard them eat...smelt the rotten cadavre....really wow...best part when the little ones tried to growl....they were so cute...loved it....wow...here some pics....

And here is another first for me....during the morning drive you stop for coffee and rusks...and during the evening drive you stop for drinks and local snacks.....biltong, nuts etc....that i knew....but the one afternoon stop we stopped about 50m from a white rhino....and our ranger calmly stated.....not to worry...he cant see us...he can only smell and hear us....hmmmm....and then the rhino started to move towards us and past us...at one stage not further than 10m....holy.....wow...what an experience....amazing.....here a pic of us having drinks....G&T.....of course....

The one thing i also love at Buffalo Ridge is the pool...you are up on a ridge and you oversee the bush...really amazing...and weather was fab so swimming was in tact.....

And to end my blog....here are some pics from the sunset....

The bush was just so relaxing...and i must say i really enjoyed it....kim and i were the only ones there so we got treated like royalty (but i have been there before and the treatment was as good).....and one last fact before i end....Buffalo Ridge is community owned and community run....how nice....great to support....so cheers...next blog Sun City......but wait..One pic of me.....
