Le Dolcezzi di Nanni

Believe it or not.....yes, you are reading correct, after writing my blog last night...i had the urge to go back to Buonconvento today and try this pastry shop...i mean as i said...it looked inviting and i was just so disappointed that it was closed yesterday...so why not.....we also thought the weather is a little strange...so cappuccino sounded like a good plan....

Our view this morning
Already the entrance to Dolcezze di Nanni looked inviting and warm...it looked like a pastry/ coffee shop with some atmosphere....
Entrance
Close up of entrance sign
When we entered the door we were welcomed by pastries....and right in the front...the typical fried carnevale pastry...i was already sold....i knew what i would be having with my cappuccino....let me show you...
Deep fried carnevale pastry
The place was beautifully decorated, warm, friendly...just very quaint...the downstairs had the bar counter where you order your goodies and upstairs (well about 8 steps up) were three cute coffee tables with some chairs...one green, one orange and one pink table...lots of shelves with their products...various cookies displayed with their logo...honestly, beautifully decorated...let me share some pics....
Decoration: view from our seats

View of upstairs: as you might guess, we occupied the green table
Their branded cookies
They also had a beautiful picture of the generations.....
The family
Now you might wonder...what is the story....here it is....once upon a time there was a little boy called Giovannino who lived with his grandmother in Buonconvento. Every morning his grandmother prepared his breakfast and when the sun came up, baked a whole tin of "big biscuits", as Giovannino would call them, because they were bigger than his cup. During the autumn, when the rainy days were bidding farewell to the summer, little Giovannino and his grandmother were usually found to be mixing genuine ingredients: sweet and bitter almonds, sugar, egg whites to create beautifully soft "amaretti". As the years went by, the little "Nanni" grew, if not very much, into an expert baker. Nonetheless, his art was missing something: a sweet maiden to help him in his daily work. One beautiful day, his dreams came true, and he met a beautiful girl called Floriana who became his wife. This novella with a delightful ending tells the story of the "Dolcezze di Nanni", born of the experiences of Nanni and Floriana, known by the taste and food lovers the world over for their exquisite homemade artisan sweet pastries.....quite a nice little story...no?
Now what did we have....well i already told you, i wanted to have one of those carnevale pastries cause they are not always available....i will go back and have the traditional amaretti biscuit of course...but those are always available...and given that i live in Italy, i will be able to go back...Mutti did not have breakfast yet, so she had a croissant...which....here...one always needs to check...most croissants...or how Italians call them "cornetto" are either filled with crema (custard) or marmelate (jam) or are sweet...savoury is not that common...so Mutti ended up with a sweet plain cornetto.....both items were very yummie..hence we would go back...the cappuccino was also very good...Illy coffee...so strong coffee, thick foam, lots of foam and I could add some choc sprinkles...so yes...we were happy with our coffee outing...and yes, we would go back there...but i must say...a little far just to go for a coffee...maybe combine it with a facial....now let me share a pic of our order...
Pastries and cappuccino (before adding the choc sprinkles)
So for now...this is it....chat soon...not sure about what yet....but I am sure something will come up...there is still quite a few things that I need to catch you up on since we have arrived in Italy....i just need to decide on the order....
